Title: Baseball Operations R&D Intern
Department: Baseball Operations
Location: San Francisco, CA
Status: Part-Time; Non-Exempt
Position Summary:
The San Francisco Giants are seeking an analytically-focused intern to join the R+D department within Baseball Operations, with opportunities available for both summer and year-round internships. • Prototype research outputs into lightweight tools and visualizations for use across Baseball Ops.
• Perform ad-hoc statistical analysis and quantitative research to support various areas of Baseball Ops.
• Own small-scale (or larger!) research projects and see them through to completion.
• Keep up-to-date on the frontier of public baseball research and AI tool integration to enhance workflows.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Experience in a quantitative field, such as engineering, physical sciences, computer science, or applied math.
• Fluency in SQL and at least one general-purpose programming language (e.g. Python, R).
• Top-notch critical thinking skills, including ability to identify data issues; ability to articulate assumptions, limitations, and uncertainties in a process; and ability to distill complex topics into interpretable results.
• Passion and curiosity for baseball analytics.
• Strong work ethic with a voracious appetite to learn on the fly.
• Positive attitude and willingness to contribute to team culture.
• Experience with machine learning and/or computer vision is a plus.
