Summary
The Intermodal Drayage Dispatcher is a member of the Drayage team, responsible for assigning and adjusting drayage loads in real time, coordinating with drivers on the road, and keeping rail and terminal moves on schedule. This role is accountable for on-time pickups and deliveries, accurate customer communication on shipment status and rail billing, and dispatch coverage that extends into after-hours and weekend on-call support. The ideal candidate is decisive under pressure, comfortable making real-time load-movement calls, and flexible to shifts in scheduling
Job Description
Drayage Dispatch & Load Coordination
Assign drayage loads to drivers based on driver availability, location, and customer requirements.
Reassign drivers and reposition drayage loads in real time when a rail or terminal pickup is delayed or unavailable.
Communicate with drivers to provide instructions, resolve issues, and track progress on drayage moves.
Manage emergency situations (e.g., accidents, delays) and provide quick, effective solutions.
Shipment & Customer Administration
Update customers on the status of their drayage shipments, providing accurate ETA's.
Serve as the primary point of contact for customer communication on rail billing, equipment availability, and other intermodal-specific administrative processing.
Maintain accurate records of all dispatched drayage shipments, including delivery times and customer feedback.
Coverage & Compliance
Monitor driver schedules and performance to ensure compliance with hours of service (HOS) regulations.
Maintain office-based dispatch coverage, transitioning to after-hours and weekend on-call phone coverage for driver and customer communication.
Team Collaboration
Promote a business partner and ownership mindset to the team to prioritize customer service excellence, adaptability and resilience to change and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree or higher is a plus.
2+ years of experience in intermodal drayage dispatch or related field.
Knowledge of intermodal transportation systems and routing.
Proficiency in dispatch software and communication tools.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, etc.).
Experience using or willingness to learn approved AI/LLM and automation tools is a plus.
Problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure.
Must be flexible and adaptable to the ever-changing market and Lazer Logistics objectives and goals.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to collaborate and work well in a fast-paced/dynamic team environment.
