About the Job

The Registered Nurse:

• Practices in a perinatal clinical setting and is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of client care
• Works in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
• Ensures the delivery of client–centered care by assisting individual clients and their families respond to changing health care needs
• Demonstrates a specialized body of knowledge and bases practice on nursing science and related content from other sciences and humanities

This is a Term Specific Full Time opportunity until July 16, 2027.

Shifts of work will be scheduled days and nights rotating from 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00 hours.

About this Location

At East Kootenay Regional Hospital, Maternal Child nurses care for patients throughout their perinatal journey providing prenatal, labour and delivery and post-partum care- all done in a rooming-in setting. They also care for general pediatric in-patients and provide clinical expertise during Code Pink and neonatal emergencies. EKRH serves the City of Cranbrook and outlying rural areas. As a Regional Centre, we see a broad scope of patients and deliver about 500 babies per year. Family centered care is an integral part of our nursing philosophy and contributes to a positive experience for all mothers and support persons. Well established physician specialists in Obstetrics and Pediatrics, along with many Midwives, complement our collaborative team. EKRH is a teaching hospital with students in rural nursing and baccalaureate programs offering an excellent opportunity to develop and mentor others.

We will provide you with an orientation customized to meet your individual needs and immediate support from colleagues and clinical educators. We offer in-house training for NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) and FHS (Fetal Health Surveillance) as well as ongoing education through More Ob, a comprehensive patient safety and performance improvement program for inter-professional obstetrical teams. Our simulation doll, Bertha, is available for training on a regular basis.

Qualfications

• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
• Advanced preparation in a Perinatal clinical specialty or an equivalent combination of education & experience
• Current Fetal Health Surveillance
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NPR) within 2 years
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 3 years
