Description:

The Senior Interior Designer is a seasoned, highly creative, and operationally strong designer who leads the interior design scope on standard luxury residential projects and co-leads on more complex homes under the guidance of a Project Interior Designer or Design Manager. This role balances design excellence, elevated client experience, coordination, and financial awareness to deliver exceptional interior environments aligned with Blue Heron’s architectural vision and design philosophy.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead interior design efforts for assigned projects or standard scopes from concept through documentation and implementation.
  • Conceptualize and present sophisticated interior design solutions that align with the client’s vision, lifestyle, and Blue Heron’s architectural and brand standards.
  • Establish and carry a cohesive design narrative across all interior spaces.
  • Curate, specify, and coordinate luxury materials, finishes, FF&E, textiles, and bespoke detailing.
  • Review, redline, and provide direction on drawings and specifications produced by Interior Designers and design support team members.
  • Ensure seamless integration of architectural elements with interior design intent.
  • Lead or co-lead client presentations, clearly articulating design rationale, options, and recommendations.
  • Manage client feedback and design iterations while maintaining alignment with budget, schedule, and design intent.
  • Partner with Project Interior Designers to drive key milestones, decisions, and client sign-offs.
  • Proactively address challenges with strategic solutions and maintain clear, consistent communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate closely with architecture, engineering, purchasing, estimating, construction, artisans, and vendors to ensure design fidelity and constructability.
  • Shepherd the interiors scope through documentation, procurement coordination, and field support.
  • Significant construction administration experience on complex interior projects, with proven ability to manage submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, site visits, and punch lists through successful project completion.
  • Anticipate and resolve design-related issues proactively in collaboration with project managers and superintendents.
  • Design effectively to budget, support margin awareness, meet project milestones, and improve workflow efficiency.
  • Track and manage interior-related billable hours in alignment with project expectations.
  • Mentor and coach Interior Designers & support staff, providing guidance, feedback, and support for professional growth.
  • Support the development of interior design standards, libraries, and processes.
  • Contribute positively to the culture through teamwork, accountability, and design leadership.


Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in interior design or a related field preferred.
  • 7–9 years of interior design experience in luxury residential or luxury hospitality projects required.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating concept-to-completion design work in luxury environments.
  • Extensive knowledge of materials, detailing, FF&E, and custom fabrication.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex design scopes, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong client-facing skills with the ability to build trust and guide decision-making.
  • Highly collaborative mindset with strong cross-functional communication skills.
  • Skilled in industry standard tools including Microsoft Office Suite, SketchUp, and Bluebeam.
