Job Summary
Scottsdale Community College's Center of Excellence in Interior Design, home to Arizona's longest-running interior design program, is seeking a full-time Residential Interior Design Faculty member beginning August 2026. The successful candidate will teach advanced residential design studios, including upper-level residential and kitchen and bath design courses. Strong expertise in interior design technology and construction documentation is required. The faculty member will guide students through complex residential projects from concept through presentation and technical documentation. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include curriculum development, student mentorship, assessment, and service to the program, student club, department, college, and design community.
To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence on campus, with the possibility of partial remote work depending on business needs.

Essential Functions
Teach advanced residential design studios and kitchen and bath design courses in classroom, studio, and virtual settings, fostering critical thinking, spatial reasoning, and problem-solving skills among students of varied ages, abilities, and diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
Deliver instruction in residential design theory, space planning, building systems, materials, and construction documentation using verbal, written, visual, and technology-based methods, including Canvas and industry-standard design software.
Guide students through the complete design process-from programming and schematic design through construction documentation and professional presentation-ensuring alignment with industry standards and best practices.
Evaluate student performance through project critiques, assignments, exams, and technical documentation review; maintain accurate academic records and calculate final grades.
Provide academic and career advisement, maintain regular office hours, and mentor students regarding professional practice, industry readiness, and transfer or employment pathways.
Design, develop, and revise syllabi, curricula, and instructional materials; contribute to program review, assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Advise and oversee the student interior design club, supporting student leadership development, industry engagement, and participation in professional activities and events.
Participate in service to the degree program, department, college, and district, including committees, governance activities, and collaborative initiatives with internal and external partners.
Maintain currency in the field through professional development, industry engagement, and Faculty Professional Growth (FPG), modeling high professional and ethical standards.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
This position does not supervise regular staff but may advise student organizations and/or student workers.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives general supervision from the Program Director and/or Department Chair and works within established academic policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Five years of occupational experience in the field to be taught
OR
Three years of occupational experience in the field to be taught and a Bachelor's degree or higher
OR
A Master's degree or higher in the teaching field
OR
A Master's degree of higher in any field with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field
OR
A Master's degree of higher in any field with a combination of 24 upper division and/or graduate credits in the teaching field
Desired Qualifications
  1. Proven experience as lead designer on ten or more high-end custom residential projects, including kitchens and bathrooms, with clear photographic documentation of finished work.
  2. Demonstrated experience producing comprehensive residential construction documentation sets, including floor plans, elevations, sections, cabinetry details, and specifications.
  3. Five or more years managing design teams, supervising staff, leading major initiatives, or serving in formal leadership roles.
  4. Advanced proficiency in industry-standard software, including AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  5. Professional design portfolio that reflects exceptional graphic clarity, organization, and professional presentation.
  6. NCIDQ Certification or certification in process, and active membership or leadership involvement in professional organizations such as ASID, IIDA, NKBA, or IDEC.
  7. One year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two years.

  • Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense.
  • May be required to travel to other MCCCD locations.
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.
  • May require prolonged periods of sitting and viewing a computer screen.
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs.
  • This position requires a physical presence on campus with possible partial remote work depending on business needs to best serve the students, department, and college.
  • May be required to instruct at multiple sites and/or teach days, evenings or weekends
  • For new Full-Time Residential Faculty hires, Experience Pay is based on the number of years of full-time equivalent teaching/work experience relevant to the teaching field. The maximum initial placement step is Step 10.
