Job description

Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast, with offices located throughout Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

GMC has an opening for Interior Designer Associate II to support on-going projects in Birmingham, AL. This position is responsible for providing interior design services supporting commercial architectural projects (Educational, Hospitality, Healthcare and Municipal facilities).

Essential functions and responsibilities include:

  • Attends client planning meetings; presents plans and information to customer for review and approvals.
  • Schedule and assign tasks to other internal teams in a clear manner, process scopes of work or contracts in coordination with sales, and report on project statuses and budgets.
  • Conducts field measurements.
  • Inventories existing product and produces as built drawings/specifications.
  • Develops and presents block and space plans and gains customer approvals.
  • Develops plotting, printing, color boards, etc.
  • Develops construction documents and specifications on finishes and furniture.
  • Review design and content changes to ensure they meet GMC standards.
  • Document control, contract scope review and maintaining records of the project for both current and future use
  • Overseeing installing the design elements and furniture
  • Assists with punch list review with project managers.
  • Assists in the writing and presentation of design proposals and contracts.
  • Maintains detailed and extensive project documentation, including records of all key decisions, phone conversations, approvals and signoffs, and notes from all project planning meetings.
  • Manages adherence to project schedule, project budget, design task completions and quality of design work.
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external clients.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3+ years of interior design experience
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university in Interior Design
  • Computer skills required: (Microsoft Office Suite; Revit; Rendering software minimum)
  • Expertise in layout, color, lighting, materials selection and installations
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite or other design programs
  • Knowledge of industry best practices, ADA Codes, building materials and construction details
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Sharp eye for quality assurance and an attention to detail
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to adapt with changing business needs.
