EwingCole is a nationally recognized architecture, engineering, interior design and planning firm with offices across the country. Our multi-disciplinary practice is built on the core values of professional excellence, design quality and collaboration. We are seeking an ambitious and energetic Interior Designer I to join our Philadelphia office.  


The Interior Designer I position entails supporting the interior design effort on projects. The designer is responsible for assisting and supporting the lead interior designer with the development of the project’s interior design concepts. This includes research regarding the selection and detailing of finish materials and furnishings. This position coordinates its work with other disciplines in the production of drawings and construction documents which fulfill the design concept, meet the client's expectations and the firm's goals of design excellence, financial viability and quality service. The Interior Design I position receives technical, budgetary, managerial and design guidance on critical issues, new concepts and policy requirements.


Essential Functions:

  • Schematic Design and Design Development
  • Work with the lead interior designer in creating interior environments which serve the client’s goals and responds to their spatial needs, image and aesthetic requirements.
  • Develop code compliant designs.
  • Assist with the selection of appropriate finish materials and furnishings.
  • Assist with the development of presentation materials including 3D renderings.
  • Observe and participate in design presentations to the client.
  • Participate in the projects’ in-house design review presentations.
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines.
  • Construction Documents
  • Assist in the execution and enhancement of the design intent while preparing the construction documents.
  • Work with architecture and the engineering disciplines to ensure a consistent development of the project towards the design concepts established in earlier phases.
  • Assist in the development of project and furniture specifications and other technical requirements of projects.
  • Prepare finish and furniture boards and record binders.
  • Construction Administration
  • Assist with submittal responses, shop drawing review and construction site visits.
  • Assist with interiors and furniture punch lists.
  • Marketing
  • Assist market segment leaders and the marketing department in the preparation of design documents and presentation materials.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Science in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or Architecture
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, 3D modeling software (Sketch up, Rhino)
  • Excellent conceptual skills and understanding of interior architecture
  • Understanding of color theory and its practical application
  • Understanding of interior architectural detailing
  • Understanding of finish materials and their application

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Understanding of sustainable design concepts
