Job Overview

Fullโ€‘time faculty & Chair for Bachelor of Design in Interior Design at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Position reports to Dean of the School of Art & Design. Start date: August1,2026.

Program Description

The Bachelor of Design in Interior Design is a 120โ€‘credit professional degree emphasizing design thinking, technical proficiency, and humanโ€‘centered solutions. It prepares students for CIDA accreditation and NCIDQ certification.

Essential Functions
  • Teach 2 courses per semester (introductory to senior thesis level).
  • Participate in departmental service and committee membership.
  • Maintain an ongoing professional practice.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in recruiting cohorts and meet with prospective students.
  • Advise BDes students on courses and registration.
  • Plan and schedule all BDes Interior Design courses.
  • Identify adjunct faculty for upcoming terms.
  • Work with Dean and Provost to procure facilities, IT, and resources.
  • Collaborate on curriculum and accreditation work for online BDes program.
  • Teach four undergraduate studio classes per academic year.
  • Continuously improve curriculum integrating emerging technologies.
  • Mentor and advise students.
  • Lead departmental and institutional service including curriculum development, assessment, and strategic planning.
  • Coordinate department exhibitions of student work.
  • Participate in collegeโ€‘wide committees and initiatives.
  • Manage the annual program budget.
  • Work toward CIDA certification for the program.
  • Maintain an active professional practice or research agenda.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of CIDA certification requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Salary and Benefits
