What is an Interferometry job?

An interferometry job involves using and developing techniques that measure wave interference patterns to analyze physical properties such as distance, shape, or surface irregularities. Professionals in this field work in industries like astronomy, engineering, and telecommunications to improve precision measurements. They may design optical systems, calibrate instruments, or interpret data from interferometric experiments. Strong skills in physics, optics, and computational analysis are typically required.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Interferometry position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Interferometry, you need a strong background in physics, optics, and mathematics, often supported by a relevant degree in physics, engineering, or a related discipline. Experience with lasers, optical components, data analysis software (such as MATLAB or LabVIEW), and familiarity with precision measurement instrumentation are essential. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and teamwork abilities help you excel in experimental setups and collaborative research environments. These skills ensure accurate measurements, innovative solutions, and effective contributions to scientific or industrial projects involving interferometric techniques.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of someone working in Interferometry?

Professionals in Interferometry typically spend their days designing and setting up experimental apparatus, calibrating and troubleshooting optical equipment, collecting high-precision measurement data, and analyzing results using specialized software. They often work closely with scientists, engineers, and technical staff to develop or improve optical measurement systems for applications in research, manufacturing, or quality control. Documentation of experiments, preparing reports, and occasionally presenting findings to stakeholders or at conferences are also common tasks. A role in Interferometry is dynamic and intellectually stimulating, blending hands-on technical work with analytical problem-solving.

Job description

Array Labs builds advanced radar systems to help humanity understand and respond to changes across the physical world.

We're launching a coordinated fleet of radar satellites to create a high-resolution 3D map of the Earth - updated in real time - enabling faster, smarter decision-making for government and commercial organizations supporting disaster response, infrastructure resilience, and mission-critical geopolitical intelligence.

We design and build our satellites end-to-end, producing the world's most advanced earth observation satellites. Our fleet will deliver unprecedented levels of accuracy, coverage, and responsiveness to power critical insights precisely where they're needed most.

About the Job
As a Radar Algorithms Engineer you will develop, deploy, and scale innovative 3D reconstruction algorithms and processing techniques for this unique radar imaging system. In addition to working closely with the rest of the software team, you will be collaborating with the hardware and product teams to rapidly advance image formation techniques from concept to a cloud-based imagery production pipeline.

As part of our quickly growing engineering team, you will play a critical role in the design of the world's most advanced radar satellite constellation-one that will significantly improve humanity's ability to rapidly and comprehensively understand our changing planet.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop synthetic aperture radar algorithms to create high-quality 3D data-products. These can take inspiration from techniques in tomography, interferometry, radargrammetry, as well as computer vision algorithms.
  • Work closely with the rest of the software team to implement and deploy efficient algorithms in our cloud-based image production pipeline
  • Create tools for predicting the performance of 3D reconstruction algorithms based on image collection geometry
  • Collaborate with the product team to understand customer use-cases and translate needs into system-level requirements.
  • Generate test plans and methods to validate product quality and ensure it meets end-user expectations
Basic qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, physics, computer science, or related field
  • Experience in SAR digital signal processing and algorithm development
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Learn new concepts rapidly, completely, and in a self-directed manner
  • High levels of self-motivation and personal accountability
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under significant time constraints
  • Proficiency in Python, C/C++, or MATLAB
Preferred skills and experience:
  • Advanced degree with emphasis in radar image formation
  • Familiarity with SAR image formation algorithms
  • Familiarity with SAR collection modes and motion compensation concepts
  • Experience deploying radar algorithms into production pipelines
  • Familiarity with modern software development practices (version control, code review, continuous integration, etc)
  • Familiarity with SAR collection geometries and implications (crossing node interferometry, multi-baseline interferometry)
  • Familiarity with SAR interferogram processing
  • Familiarity with tomographic aspects of SAR and related concepts such as holographic principles, critical baseline, etc.
  • Familiarity with multi-dimensional inverse SAR and related optimization methods
ITAR Requirements:
  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
Equal Opportunity Employer:
  • Array Labs is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Employment decisions are made on the basis of merit, competence, and job qualifications and will not be influenced in any manner by gender, color, race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, religion, age, gender identity, veteran status, disability status, marital status, mental or physical disability or any other legally protected status.
$150,000 - $300,000 a year
Interview Process
We will conduct interviews via Google Meet; the typical process takes around 2-4 weeks to complete from start to finish.
