Job description

Creative eXpressions at Riot strives to deliver lasting sonic experiences for players. As an Interactive Music Designer, you will combine your passion for music with cutting-edge interactive technology to create dynamic and immersive musical experiences that elevate gameplay to new heights. Joining efforts with a multidisciplinary team, you'll help drive game projects from their inception. As a member of the audio discipline, you'll strive to find ways to teach and level up those around you while continuing to challenge and grow yourself.

As an Interactive Music Designer on Creative eXpressions, you will have the opportunity to craft interactive music experiences that resonate with players, enhancing their immersion in the world of League of Legends and TFT. Your creative contributions will play a pivotal role in shaping the soundscape of our games, enriching the overall player experience. Through collaboration with cross-functional teams, you will ensure that every note harmonizes seamlessly with the interactive elements of the game. You will merge elements of music composition and interactive technology to create immersive and dynamic musical experiences. This will involve working with Audio Leads and Audio Director to identify opportunities to heighten the game experience, collaborating with engineering in the implementation of world class systems that will adapt the music in real-time to different events and player actions within the game. 

Responsibilities:
  • Work along-side game engineers, game designers and sound designers to develop the framework of music playback systems based on Product teams' creative vision and gameplay needs
  • Execute on Audio direction
  • Define and apply best practices of interactive music workflows and systems to support project needs
  • Act as a liaison to advocate for music to the engineering staff, and partner with team members across disciplines to find solutions that best support the gameplay experience
  • Create and implement AAA-quality in-game music assets via Wwise and proprietary software
  • Optimize and refine music pipelines across League Studio games
  • Identify, create, grow and troubleshoot music features and functionality
  • Develop, document and prototype efficient pipelines or workflows for interactive music
  • Setup new pipelines within Perforce and Wwise project
  • Manage Wwise project organization, structures, gameplay parameter setups and optimizations
  • Mix music in game using middleware and engine feature sets
  • Work with external vendors to ensure they deliver high-quality work
  • Collaborate with Audio Leads and Product Stakeholders to define appropriate processes and pipelines for effective music content delivery
  • Collaborate with central teams to ensure thematic consistency across in-game and out-of-game features
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in Music in the games industry with at least 3 years of hands-on experience with interactive music systems design
  • Exceptional Wwise or Fmod implementation skills
  • Proficient with Perforce and with modern day audio software tools (Nuendo, Pro-Tools, Reaper, Plugins)
  • Strong communication & collaboration skills
  • Ability to own the total quality and value of the experiences we deliver to our audience
  • Ability to navigate stakeholder, senior leadership, discipline and team feedback effectively
  • Ability to lead and own higher-scope discipline, initiative and product team efforts such as driving on creation and adoption of style-guides, and standards along with setting team initiatives and sharing up to date industry learnings
Desired Qualifications:
  • Understanding the technical constraints regarding music implementation of PC and Mobile to accurately predict task duration and understand dependencies
  • Understanding the nuances between single player experiences and multi player experiences
