Job description

Location:
Secaucus, New Jersey
Job Summary:
The Vice President, Intellectual Property, Marketing & Product Counsel will be responsible for overseeing the intellectual property and product-related compliance functions of the company and will report to the General Counsel. The role will partner closely with senior leaders across Marketing, Merchandising, Product Development, Design, E-Commerce, Digital, Licensing, and other cross-functional teams to provide practical, business-oriented legal guidance throughout the product and brand lifecycle. The Vice President will oversee legal review and risk management related to marketing campaigns, advertising and promotional initiatives, product claims, labeling, packaging, consumer-facing communications, digital content, social media, and other brand and product activities. The ideal candidate will also provide leadership and oversight of the company's litigation and dispute resolution matters, working closely with the General Counsel, internal stakeholders, and outside counsel to assess, manage, and resolve a broad range of commercial, intellectual property, employment, product, consumer, and other legal disputes.
Responsibilities:
Key Accountabilities:
Intellectual Property:
  • Manage company's intellectual property and brand portfolio; provide strategic analysis on IP portfolio and new trademark filings
  • Review and approve product designs and art
  • Draft and revise license agreements

Marketing:
  • Advise on all aspects of company marketing and advertising, including sweepstakes, contests, loyalty program, coupons and promotions

Product Safety & Compliance:
  • Oversee regulatory & product compliance obligations
  • Advise on product safety and compliance, including applicable regulations in the U.S. and Canada

Litigation:
  • Manage the company's litigation and coordinate litigation strategy with external counsel

Education and Experience:
• Strong academic credentials, including a J.D. degree from an accredited law school and membership in good standing in New York and/or New Jersey, with eligibility to be admitted as NJ in-house counsel
• 10+ years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal role
• Experience in retail organization is preferred
• Experience in handling litigation items is a plus
Skills and Behaviors:
• Strong familiarity with intellectual property matters, preferably in the retail and fashion industry
• Knowledge of cost-effective management of outside legal resources
• Strong time-management skills, and ability to pivot and reprioritize matters to meet shifting demands
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Must demonstrate professionalism and a high degree of confidentiality
• Ability to manage and supervise paralegal(s) and Director-level attorney(s)
Hourly/Salary
