Job description

As a nationally ranked steel erector company, we lead with expertise and dedication to safety, quality, and on-time delivery. The Assistant Project Manager (APM) plays a key supporting role in this mission by helping drive project performance, coordination, and execution across preconstruction and field activities.

Overview:

The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for supporting Project Managers (PMs) and Construction Managers (CMs) with daily project tasks and communication. This role ensures consistency in deliverables, promotes strong subcontractor/vendor relationships, and supports the team in maintaining schedule, cost, and quality expectations. The APM helps bridge field and office efforts through collaboration and learning, with an emphasis on leadership development and long-term growth. This is a Full-time On-Site position in our Pheonix, AZ and Charolette, NC office.

Key Responsibilities:

1.  Project Administration and Coordination

  • Assist in writing scope sheets, bid comparisons, and award recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain project-specific safety plans, site logistics, and inspection plans.
  • Track and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and purchase orders.
  • Assist in developing meeting agendas, documenting notes, and following up on action items.

2. Preconstruction and Planning

  • Coordinate subcontractor onboarding, insurance certificates, and compliance.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules (including 3-week lookaheads).
  • Work with CMs and PMs to prepare pre-installation meeting documentation and kickoff checklists.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly updates, forecast invoices, and manpower plans.

3. Field and Vendor Support

  • Attend jobsite walks and site meetings; provide follow-up reports and logs.
  • Coordinate field equipment needs and material deliveries.
  • Develop a working understanding of Sure Steel's QC Manual, safety policies, and erection sequencing.
  • Support CMs with safety audits, issue tracking, and compliance reporting.

4. Documentation and Controls

  • Organize and maintain project files using platforms like OneDrive and BIM 360.
  • Assist in gathering material certifications, test reports, and inspection logs.
  • Maintain document control including drawings, submittals, specifications, and revisions.
  • Generate and track punch lists, NCRs, and closeout documentation
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field required. 
  • Familiarity with reading drawings, specs, and safety protocols.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and project management software.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and effective communicator.
