Position Summary


The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the successful planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects by working closely with Project Managers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams. This role plays a key part in day-to-day project execution, communication, cost control, and scheduling while developing mastery of company processes and systems.

Key Responsibilities


  • Support day-to-day project execution, issue resolution, and coordination activities.
  • Assist with bidding, takeoffs, and basic negotiations.
  • Deliver high-quality communication with customers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and develop mastery of Hardy processes and standards.
  • Review drawings and specifications to identify unusual requirements, manage submittals, and ensure partners have current documents.
  • Prepare project change orders with guidance from the Project Manager.
  • Coordinate and attend job start and profit projection meetings; lead job starts for projects you manage.
  • Attend job site visits and profit projection meetings, ensuring timely follow-ups.
  • Input and update manpower plans, maintain manpower charts, and manage schedules for assigned scopes.
  • Select subcontractors and vendors, prepare subcontracts and purchase orders, and track material and equipment deliveries.
  • Shadow and train on invoice approvals and profit projections; approve invoices and update projections as assigned.
  • Coordinate subcontractors to complete scope; perform site visits; complete job review checklists; resolve pre-job issues with the team.
  • Manage assigned projects with Project Manager oversight, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and budget objectives are met.





Qualifications


  • Associates degree or higher in Engineering, Building Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in commercial construction, preferably HVAC and Plumbing mechanical contracting, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with design-build, preconstruction, and design-assist project delivery methods a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of construction documents, plans, and specifications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead project teams with limited supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Experience with pull planning, Procore, PlanGrid, Microsoft Project, or similar construction software a plus.
  • Must live within 45 miles of Birmingham, AL, or be willing to relocate within a similar radius.
