Chief Inspector - Full-time


Vision Integrity Engineering Ltd. (VIE) is looking for a Chief Inspector has API 510 certification, ABSA registered ISI-BPVPP with ABSA and has at least 10 years experience in inspection and Chief Inspector responsibilities for upstream oil and gas clients.The role is full-time and will require the occasional site work and travel. The successful candidate would be assigned a client to be positioned as Chief Inspector and manage their inspection activities under their Pressure Equipment and Pipeline owner/user program. The role and responsibilities of the successful candidate include:

  • Administers, performs and oversees inspection activities under the provincial legislation, codes, and standards. Ensures the Pressure Equipment Integrity Management System is followed.
  • Ensures integrity, inspection and full life cycle pressure equipment activities align with the jurisdictional authority.
  • Ensures any equipment repair and alteration activities, executed under this program, are inspected as required by this program and regulations.
  • Ensures inspection activities are performed by competent and qualified inspection personnel.
  • Liaise with the local ABSA SCO on behalf of the client.
  • Coordination of Field Inspections and NDE crews.
  • Performs vendor and contractor facility audits, and internal audits.
  • Performs inspection and QC package reviews.
  • Develop inspection plans and corrosion monitoring plans and assigns inspection intervals.
  • Complete internal and external inspections of pressure equipment.

Other responsibilities

  • Ensure Pipeline Integrity Management System is followed.
  • Review in-line inspection tool reports and provide recommendations for digs and pipeline repair.
  • Consult on pipeline integrity related issues

Role is a combined remote and office based with the occasional site visit. Office presence will depend on the discretion of the manager and client. Applicant must be based out of Calgary, AB.


Required Qualifications / Experience:

  • 10 or more years experience as Chief Inspector for a sour oil and gas facility.
  • Holds a valid ISI-BPVPP certification with ABSA.
  • Holds a valid API 510 certification.
  • Competently prepare, review and revise as needed integrity assessments, inspection plans, repair plans, corrosion monitoring plans, procedures, work instructions and quality management programs.
  • Can effectively supervise inspectors and NDE crews.
  • Can effectively work in collaboration with engineering and operations.
  • Strong understanding of ABSA and AER regulatory requirements
  • Strong understanding of CSA, API, NACE and ASME requirements and application.
  • Understand the cost implications of recommendations between client expectations and regulatory requirements.
  • Can communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, with regulator, client and stake holders.
