Night Shift (United States)

Under the general oversight of Supervisors, Managers, or Directors, you will conduct clinical laboratory testing in accordance with established protocols that require independent judgment and accountability. Your responsibilities will include maintaining equipment and records, performing quality assurance tasks related to testing, and potentially supervising and training others in the laboratory environment.

• Accuracy: Ensure precision in patient testing, quality assurance, proficiency, and competency evaluations.
• Critical Thinking: Utilize clinical and theoretical knowledge to analyze, investigate, interpret, and report laboratory data.
• Job Knowledge: Stay updated on personal training, education, and adherence to policies and procedures.
• Productivity: Employ organizational skills to optimize time, resources, costs, and availability of laboratory data.
• Communication: Engage in monitoring, investigating, resolving issues, and effectively transferring information to team members.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned.

• Maintain acceptable accuracy in patient testing and quality assurance:
  • Adhere to department standards for patient or specimen identification.
  • Meet departmental error rate standards in testing and reporting results.
  • Document investigations and interpretations of QA failures or trends consistently.
  • Achieve satisfactory scores in proficiency and competency testing.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of testing instruments.
• Utilize clinical knowledge to analyze and report lab data:
  • Accurately report lab data within established turnaround times and productivity benchmarks.
  • Understand the connection between lab results and clinical findings.
  • Interpret information from various sources.
• Monitor and communicate information effectively:
  • Follow the Pending Log procedure for tracking laboratory test statuses.
  • Document all elements of the Notification Value Call procedure in the LIS.
  • Transfer information to others according to departmental procedures and chain of command.
  • Consistently uphold our organization’s Standards of Behavior.
  • Take personal responsibility for implementing corrective actions based on constructive feedback.
• Contribute to laboratory performance improvements and readiness for inspections:
  • Assist in analyzing new testing methods, including correlations and procedure documentation.
  • Support inspection preparation efforts.
  • Engage in laboratory performance improvement initiatives.
  • Implement cost-effective work processes while maintaining high-quality laboratory data.
• Stay current with training, education, and adherence to policies:
  • Maintain knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, including LIS.
  • Demonstrate understanding of laboratory regulatory compliance.
  • Follow all safety standards set by our organization and the laboratory.
  • Participate in meetings, committees, task forces, and project teams.
  • Complete educational requirements on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Science, General Science, or a Master’s degree in a related field (preferred).
• Licenses and Certifications: All certifications must be obtained upon hire unless specified otherwise:
  • MT(ASCP) - Medical Technologist
  • MT(AMT) - Medical Technologist
  • MT(AAB) - Medical Technologist
  • MT(HEW) - Medical Technologist
  • MLS(ASCP) - Medical Laboratory Scientist
  • MLS(AMT) - Medical Laboratory Scientist
  • MB(ASCP) - Molecular Biologist
  • H(ASCP) - Hematology
• Experience: A minimum of one year of laboratory experience is preferred.
• Skills:
  • Proficient in computer/data entry.
  • Effective communication with various healthcare team members.
  • Familiarity with EXCEL, Word, and basic computer operations; experience with Epic and 3M is a plus.
