Job description

Integrated Marketing Manager, Government

Marketing - Washington, DC

About the Team

Like every team at OpenAI, the Marketing team contributes to our broader mission of ensuring responsible and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence. With that aim in mind, we are responsible for developing and executing strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and usage for OpenAIโ€™s products and platform amongst our core audiences. We take a dataโ€‘driven approach to understand our customers' needs and challenges, ensuring that their voices are reflected in product development and messaging. We then partner closely with Product, Engineering, Research, Comms, and Design teams to create a cohesive customer experience across all our channels. Our focus extends beyond just promoting product features; we aim to provide valuable insights and resources that help our users make the most out of AI technologies.

About the Role

We are seeking a Government Marketing Manager to lead marketing campaigns and programs for OpenAIโ€™s government business, OpenAI for Government. This role will define how we communicate the impact of our work with governments and public institutions, turning technical products and partnership outcomes into clear stories that show how AI can help public servants better serve people and communities. The ideal candidate has experience working with government entities and leading in complex, multiโ€‘stakeholder environments. They bring strong strategic and creative judgment, translate technology and policy priorities for diverse audiences, and build trust and engagement across paid, owned, and earned channels.

In this role, you will:
  • Build the OpenAI for Government Narrative and Brand: Build a distinct government narrative aligned with the OpenAI brand, centered on mission outcomes, public servants, security, and responsible deployment.
  • Build a Government Storytelling Engine: Create a repeatable process to source, prioritize, approve, and refresh customer stories, public use cases, metrics, and quotes for web, video, social, sales, events, and internal storytelling.
  • Lead Product Release Marketing: Build marketing plans for governmentโ€‘relevant product releases, security and compliance milestones, partnerships, projects, and other key moments.
  • Shape OpenAI for Governmentโ€™s Presence: Define how and when OpenAI shows up at conferences, summits, think tanks, and public events relevant to government audiences, turning marquee moments into sustained relationships and pipeline, in collaboration with the internal events team.
  • Develop Segment and Mission Campaigns: Turn OpenAI for Governmentโ€™s priority audience segments into campaigns for relevant agencies and mission sets. Develop reusable content for government and partner audiences such as white papers, executive and solution briefs, useโ€‘case playbooks, videos, and decks.
  • Lead Partner Marketing Campaigns: Develop and execute joint campaigns with strategic partners, align goโ€‘toโ€‘market plans, amplify shared announcements, and strengthen OpenAI for Governmentโ€™s position in priority markets.
  • Develop and maintain governmentโ€‘focused demo materials: Partner with Government Solutions Engineering to maintain demos that bring priority mission workflows and product capabilities to life.
  • Drive Actionโ€‘Oriented Engagement: Generate qualified interest and pipeline while advancing thought leadership and community engagement. Define success metrics and use insights to improve performance.
  • Lead Crossโ€‘Functional Execution: Bring together government stakeholders, OpenAI for Government, Global Affairs, Communications, Product, Legal, Policy, regional and creative teams, and agencies to move programs from brief through approval, launch, and measurement.
You might thrive in this role if you have:
  • Experience: 8+ years in integrated marketing, communications, brand storytelling, public affairs, advertising agencies, or a related field, including at least 3 years in an integrated or campaignโ€‘focused role.
  • Government and Publicโ€‘Sector Experience: Experience working in government or working closely with government entities, policymakers, or publicโ€‘sector partners in the United States or internationally, with a deep understanding of government missions, government procurement, government stakeholders, and communications review processes.
  • Brand, Narrative, and Storytelling Strategy: A track record of building differentiated positioning and credible stories that connect customer needs and product capabilities with mission, human, societal, and public sector outcomes.
  • Integrated Campaign and Launch Management: Proven success leading campaigns, product releases, partnership announcements, events, and security or compliance milestones relevant to the government ecosystem across digital, social, content, paid media, email, sales enablement, and events.
  • Technology Fluency: Experience translating technical products, demos, security concepts, and emerging technologies for audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Communication and Judgment: The ability to align stakeholders and influence executives while navigating cultural, institutional, reputational, policy, security, and competitive considerations.
  • Agility & Adaptability: Comfort operating in a fastโ€‘moving environment and adjusting plans as partnerships, products, markets, and government priorities change.
Nice to Have
  • Passion for storytelling and connecting technology products with meaningful public impact.
  • Experience developing partnership stories, customer case studies, or impact campaigns.
  • A testโ€‘andโ€‘learn mindset focused on audience insights and continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with AI and emerging technology marketing trends, plus product launch or publicโ€‘private partnership announcement experience.
