Job description

Job Summary
The Intake Coordinator works in collaboration with clinical staff to provide an efficient admission experience that focuses on compassionate treatment of patients and families seeking hospital services. Adheres to Butler Hospital Service Standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Greets patients and their families upon entry into the Patient Assessment Services (PAS) area and explains the assessment process in a professional manner that is understandable to the patient/family.
  • Demonstrates an ability to inspire confidence in patients, visitors, and staff members by communicating and performing duties in a professional manner.
  • Provides supervision of patients in PAS assuring that potential problems are identified and patient comfort and safety needs are met, taking into account the patient's age specific needs.
  • Demonstrates the ability to observe patient behaviors and communicates concerns to licensed clinical staff in a timely manner.
  • Interacts frequently with patients and families keeping them informed of the status of the assessment/admission process.
  • Maintains current knowledge of de-escalation procedures and demonstrates the ability to work under the direction of PAS clinicians in the safe management of patients in PAS.
  • Maintains current knowledge of seclusion and restraint procedures and participates in such procedures under the direction of the charge clinician.
  • Completes all intake/disposition/admission procedures in a timely manner according to departmental procedure.
  • Maintains safety as a priority for all patients and families.
  • Obtains the necessary intake information on all patients entering PAS and records required information on Admission Intake form.
  • Maintains Patient Daily Log according to departmental procedure.
  • Completes the following security procedures according to departmental procedures:
    • Metal detector screening.
    • Pat search.
    • Safe management of patient belongings/valuables/medications.
  • Obtains vitals signs and BAL and records them according to departmental procedures.
  • Performs supportive activities. that facilitate the timely and efficient assessment of the patient by PAS clinicians/physicians.
  • Provides teaching for patients and families regarding rights of patients and obtains required signatures on legal documents as directed by the PAS charge clinician.
  • Assists in escorting the patient to units and introduces patient and family to receiving unit staff assisting patient in a successful transition to the inpatient unit.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with all staff (PAS, physicians, unit staff) and is responsive to supervision.
  • Works effectively with peers to facilitate intake and admission procedures in a manner that avoids unnecessary delays.
  • Works effectively with PAS clinicians in providing for the treatment needs of the patient and their families.
  • Maintains positive relationships with unit staff conveying an attitude of shared responsibility for the admission process.
  • Accepts feedback from supervisors and responds in a constructive manner by adjusting own behavior in response to supervision.
  • Participates in continuing education opportunities and personal job related growth & development.
  • Maintains required competencies through participation in hospital and departmental training.
  • Seeks out learning opportunities that demonstrates a commitment to self-development as it pertains to the role of Intake Coordinator.
  • Participates responsibly in supervision and communicates concerns appropriately to department administrators (attending physicians, director, nurse manager) in a constructive and timely manner.

Requirements
  • Education: Associate's Degree or higher in Human Services preferred. Minimum 3 years experience in mental health/substance abuse field
  • Training and Experience: Knowledge and/or previous experience working within RI mental health system or substance abuse system.

Schedule: 28/56 Part Time Nights - Every Other Weekend
Position is located in our IAC / Inpatient Assessment Center (E.D)
