About this Opportunity
The Social Worker III - Intake/After Hours supports the Department of Social Services' Intake and After Hours Units by providing coverage for both Adult and Child Protective Services during late-afternoon and evening hours. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM. The Department of Social Services is mandated to provide social work services to the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and this position is critical to assisting the Department in meeting that mandate and ensuring seamless service delivery.
Job responsibilities include:
  • Provide intake coverage during business hours and respond to all after-hours calls under the supervision of the On-Call Supervisor.
  • Assess the safety of children and adults and take appropriate action in accordance with agency policy.
  • Initiate new and existing Adult and Child Protective Services reports.
  • Conduct follow-up home visits, interviews, and assist with case initiations as requested.
  • Complete agency Hot Sheet and courtesy requests for all program areas; assist primary after-hours social workers as needed.
  • Maintain high standards for all records; documentation must be completed within 24 hours of contact, and daysheets must be submitted daily.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of child welfare policies and legal mandates
  • Knowledge of social work, practices, and principles
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite General computer knowledge and ability to learn and navigate various programs and databases
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and reassess as priorities change in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to de-escalate upset clients / remain calm in stressful situations Strong written and oral communication skills

Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; or
  • Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (Child Welfare positions only); or
  • Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; or
  • Master's degree in a human services field and one year of directly related experience; or
  • Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience; or
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Must be physically able to operate a variety of office equipment. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pound of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
