Job description

The Chief Clinical Officer is the senior clinical executive accountable for unifying clinical excellence and business performance across the enterprise. The CCO leads system-wide clinical strategy and operations including MDS, Clinical Operations, Central Intake, and Case Management, ensuring that clinical practice, reimbursement, and operational decisions work in concert to maximize quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, and financial results.

The CCO is a data-driven operator who translates acuity, staffing, and reimbursement analytics into budgets, labor plans, and profitable admissions decisions while sustaining top-tier resident outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical-Business Integration & Growth

- Own the clinical P&L levers: admissions mix, acuity alignment, formulary/high-cost drug management, therapy intensity, and discharge planning.

- Build and maintain admission profitability models.

- Partner with Finance on annual operating budgets and forecasting.

- Translate clinical pathways into standard cost-of-care targets.

Labor Management & Productivity

- Set HPPD targets tied to acuity and census.

- Use productivity dashboards to rebalance FTEs vs. agency/OT.

- Implement scheduling governance to unlock bed availability.

Budgeting, Reimbursement & Documentation Integrity

- Lead enterprise MDS/RAI performance.

- Support compliant reimbursement under PDPM and Medicaid case-mix.

- Oversee monthly close routines with Finance.

Intake, Case Management & Payer Strategy

- Direct Central Intake and Case Management teams.

- Collaborate with contracting teams.

- Reduce avoidable denials.

Quality, QAPI & Clinical Excellence

- Lead Quality Improvement Program.

- Deploy enterprise bundles with measurable outcomes.

Regulatory Compliance & Survey Readiness

- Lead mock surveys, IJ responses, and Plans of Correction.

Clinical Operations & Talent Development

- Direct regional clinical leaders and DONs.

- Develop leadership pipelines and competencies.

Data, Analytics & Governance

- Run weekly enterprise clinical-financial huddles.

- Present trends to executive leadership.

Required:

- Registered Nurse (RN)

- 10+ years progressive nursing leadership.

- Expertise in QAPI, survey readiness, and MDS/RAI.

- Strong financial acumen.

Preferred:

- Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, MSN, MPH)

- Certifications in QAPI, wound care, infection prevention.
