Primary Purpose

The Business Intelligence group is a team of highly motivated and skilled professionals leading USS's analytics journey and driving business value that creates a sustainable competitive advantage for our company. We accomplish this by helping the enterprise adopt various technology platforms ranging from Data visualization (Sigma), ERP Reporting (Salesforce), Extract/Load/Transformations (Dagster, Fivetran, DBT), Cloud data storage & computing (Snowflake), AI & Predictive Modeling, Data Management, Data Ops and Data Products.

The Business Intelligence Manager collaborates with Data Engineers and BI Analysts to develop robust business reporting solutions. While the Data Engineers' focus will be the movement of data, this position works closely with them and guide the flow of data, create complex models and transformations, and integrate the data in a cloud data warehouse for reporting tool consumption.

This position leads the BI Analysts on the team to oversee Master Data Management, Data Analysis, Report Reconciliations, and Sigma dashboard development. Based on this foundation of data pipelines, this position designs critical analytical dashboards, reports, and queries to drive strategic business decisions, ad-hoc analysis, and identify solutions for internal customers.


Essential Functions
  • Lead cross-functional projects using advanced data modeling and analysis techniques to discover insights that will guide strategic decisions and uncover optimization opportunities
  • Build, develop and maintain data models, data automations, dashboards and performance metrics that support key business leaders and users and their decisions
  • Recruit, train, develop and supervise analyst-level employees (either contract or FTE)
  • Manage and optimize processes for data intake, validation, mining and engineering as well as modeling, visualization and communication deliverables
  • Interface with business analysts and stakeholders to understand data needs
  • Build data expertise and own data quality for allocated areas of ownership
  • Design, build and launch new data extraction, transformation and loading processes in production
  • Work with IT data infrastructure to triage infra issues and drive to a quick resolution
  • Oversee the data/report requests process: using JIRA, track requests submitted, prioritization, approval, etc.
  • Develop and implement quality controls and departmental standards to ensure quality standards, organizational expectations, and security requirements for data
  • Organize and drive successful completion of data insight initiatives through effective management of analyst and data employees and effective collaboration with stakeholders
  • Communicate results and business impacts of insight initiatives to stakeholders within USS
  • Working knowledge of data mining principles: predictive analytics, mapping, collecting data from multiple data systems on premises and cloud-based data sources

Qualifications

EDUCATION
4 Year / Bachelors Degree Minimum


EXPERIENCE
5+ Years of recent IT experience as an Architect, Team Lead, or Manager

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of data mining principles: predictive analytics, mapping, collecting data from multiple data systems on-premises and cloud-based data sources
  • Strong financial competence, business acumen, critical thinking proficiency, and communication skills with a self-starter mentality
  • ASC 740 experience and preparation of accompanying disclosures
  • Microsoft Word/Excel expertise is essential
  • Reasoning Ability
