Our challenge

We are looking for a Java developer to join our team and help deliver key initiatives. The candidate should be a solid Java programmer, with strong design and implementation fundamentals. Prior experience in finance or legal operations will be useful, however, the ability and willingness to quickly master new technical and business concepts will be considered. The candidate will collaborate with an energetic team of highly intellectual and creative developers working on bleeding edge projects using a variety of different technologies.


Additional Information*

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Calgary, AB is CAD $80k – CAD $85k/year & benefits (see below).


The Role

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain server-side applications using Java and Spring/Spring Boot frameworks.
  • Write clean, efficient, and testable code following best practices and design patterns.
  • Collaborate with front-end developers, architects, and product managers to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Design and manage RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Participate in code reviews, mentoring junior developers, and contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Develop unit and integration tests to ensure quality and maintainability.
  • Integrate third-party APIs and external systems as required.
  • Ensure application security, data protection, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Maintain CI/CD pipelines and support DevOps practices for deployment and monitoring.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in Java back-end development.
  • Strong expertise in Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, Spring Security).
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
  • Strong understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis).
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab, or GitHub Actions.
  • Proficiency with version control systems (Git) and agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).
  • Experience with message brokers (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ) is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
