Description:

The QA Manager plays a key role in ensuring the quality, stability, and reliability of software developed at BHDIC. This role is responsible for leading and mentoring QA engineers while actively contributing to test strategy, automation efforts, and quality practices across delivery teams. The ideal candidate is hands-on, collaborative, and comfortable engaging with contributors across varying roles, technical levels, and seniority within the organization.


This role partners closely with Engineering, Product, and IT leadership to deliver high-quality software that meets functional, reliability, and security standards, while continuously improving QA processes and automation capabilities.


This is a hybrid remote role that requires onsite presence in Pittston, PA at least once every other month. Candidates must live within a reasonable driving distance of either the Pittston, PA or Omaha, NE BHDIC office for required onsite meetings as needed in whichever BHDIC office is local to the employee.


Job Responsibilities

  • Manages and mentors a team of manual and automation QA engineers, overseeing test planning, execution, test case development, coverage review, and regression testing for software developed at BHDIC.
  • Contributes to the development and evolution of the QA strategy, methodology, standards, and best practices, with a strong focus on test automation and continuous improvement.
  • Works closely with Engineering, Product, and other cross-functional teams to embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle and ensure timely delivery of high-quality products.
  • Leads and supports the implementation and ongoing improvement of automated testing solutions to increase test coverage, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Establishes, promotes, and enforces quality standards to ensure products meet functional, reliability, performance, and security requirements.
  • Actively supports hands-on testing, automation development, test reviews, and troubleshooting efforts as needed.
  • As needed, reviews and improves test plans, test cases, and automation suites to ensure appropriate coverage and risk mitigation.
  • As needed, supports CI/CD pipelines by integrating automated tests and contributing to DevOps-oriented quality practices.
  • Identifies quality trends, risks, and improvement opportunities, and communicates them clearly to leadership and stakeholders.
Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Automation-first mindset, with a focus on improving velocity, quality, and reliability through automation and process improvement.
  • Solid understanding of software engineering principles and how they apply to building reliable, maintainable, and performant automated tests.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams and collaborating within CI/CD and DevOps-oriented delivery models.
  • Prior experience leading or mentoring QA engineers in a team or project-based environment.
  • Experience in the Property & Casualty insurance domain or broader insurance industry is a plus.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of automated testing experience using frameworks and tools such as SpecFlow/Reqnroll or Playwright
  • 3+ years of people leadership experience
  • Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages such as C# or Java.
  • Experience with commercial Property & Casualty insurance systems and products.

In accordance with pay transparency laws and regulations, the following good faith compensation range estimate is being provided. The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $145,000 per year. Final compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.
