A day in the life.

As our Practice Leader for the Business Insurance team, you'll provide strategic leadership for the MMA Dakotas Business Insurance practice. This role is responsible for setting the vision, direction, and priorities for the practice while driving profitable growth, client service excellence, colleague development, and operational effectiveness.

This leader partners closely with local and regional leadership, sales colleagues, operations, and carrier partners to develop and execute both short- and long-term strategies that support revenue growth, talent development, market positioning, and overall practice success. The role requires strong business acumen, collaborative leadership, and the ability to influence across teams and functions.

Business Insurance Practice Leadership

  • Leads the overall direction and performance of the MMA Dakotas Business Insurance practice.
  • Drives profitable growth and ensures agency and departmental goals are achieved.
  • Champions the MMA sales process and reinforces sales methodology across the team.
  • Identifies opportunities for innovation and continually seeks better ways to serve clients.
  • Reviews and communicates trends in new business, renewal business, and lost business.
  • Partners with leadership and team members to assess practice needs and establish short- and long-term priorities.
  • Works closely with local and regional Business Insurance operations to develop project plans, support key initiatives, and ensure timely execution.
  • Facilitates collaboration and cross-sell opportunities across MMA and Marsh McLennan businesses.
  • Leads Business Insurance sales and operations teams in developing and executing strategies that support profitability, operational efficiency, and strong client service.
  • In partnership with Senior Leadership Team members, establishes annual sales goals and performance metrics for the practice, offices, and industry verticals.
  • Monitors key financial metrics, including new business forecasting, retention, pipeline development, and producer success rates.
  • Ensures Business Insurance colleagues understand available resources and supports implementation in partnership with operations leadership.

Participation on the Local Leadership Team

  • Demonstrates commitment to the firm's values and culture.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with agency leaders, colleagues, and other MMA, Marsh, and MMC teams across the footprint.
  • Helps attract, develop, and retain top talent within the practice.
  • Partners with leadership on acquisition opportunities and integration efforts.
  • Contributes to strategic planning initiatives and helps shape long-range business strategy.
  • Supports annual budgeting efforts to align with growth objectives, market conditions, and strategic priorities.
  • Supports MMA's efforts to be a top workplace through strong leadership and engagement.
  • Champions corporate initiatives and supports executive leadership with forecasts, budgets, financial reviews, and reporting as needed.

Carrier and Vendor Relationships

  • Maintains strong, long-term relationships with carrier and vendor partners.
  • Monitors business placement to maximize utilization of carrier programs and strategic opportunities.
  • Participates in annual carrier planning sessions in coordination with Business Insurance leadership and team members.
  • Identifies and shares emerging industry trends, market intelligence, and key issues with producers, clients, team members, and leadership.
  • Serves as a liaison on key business issues and helps resolve carrier-specific matters affecting clients.

We'd love to meet you if your professional track record includes these skills:

  • 10+ years of experience in business insurance industry, including experience within a broker/agency or carrier environment (preferably with a portion of that time in a sales role).
  • BA/BS focused on Business, Risk Management or equivalent.
  • Thorough command of business insurance marketplace; demonstrated ability to lead application of technology solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with insurance carriers.
  • Proven ability to interact with senior executives, to develop and gain support of a vision, and to operate effectively under pressure.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects/initiatives and offer a strategic view point to holistically ensure that MMA Dakotas' goals/objectives are achieved.
  • Strong relationship builder, listener and partner to the business.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office software.

These additional qualifications are a plus, but not required to apply:

  • Insurance Sales Experience
  • Property & Casualty License
