Overview:
Paralegal
Acting under the direction and guidance of the Paralegal Manager, primarily responsible for researching and assisting on various legal matters, preparing cases for court, representing the organization in court, and completing all post court work to include filing abstracts and any potential court remedies in a timely manner. Provide legal and administrative support to the attorneys and the department.
Must possess a positive and questioning attitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to collaborate with other Paralegals, Sentara Counsel, leadership and other team members to continuously improve processes.

Must be able to understand complex legal information and be able to apply one's knowledge to ensure that Sentara is compliant with all laws and regulations governing legal matters applicable to the role. Must demonstrate a strong knowledge of the legal collections process.
On site at 1330 Sentara Park, Norfolk/VA Beach.
In Office at Sentara Park, one day per week (required)
Education
  • Associate Level Degree or
  • Paralegal Certification required
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology and billing strongly preferred

Certification/Licensure
  • Paralegal Certification required
  • Notary Public required
  • Will consider-- Paralegal certification and notary to be obtained within six months of hire

Experience
  • Three years work experience as a Paralegal or equivalent number of years experience performing functions in support of Paralegal activities in a law firm preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and billing strongly preferred
  • Ability to travel to Northern VA courts
