Job description

Location: Cleveland, OH

Cleveland-Cliffs Steel LLC has immediate openings for Shift Manager Operations positions at our Cleveland, OH plant. This front-line leadership role is responsible for coordinating safety and quality activities, leading hourly employees, and overseeing production operations to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable performance.

The Shift Manager serves as a key link between hourly personnel, maintenance, and leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.


Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality standards; conduct safety, quality, and environmental audits in a timely manner.
  • Provide clear direction to employees and maintain accountability for adherence to safety rules, environmental requirements, and job procedures.
  • Monitor operating conditions and work with production and maintenance teams to address operational issues and drive safe, efficient performance.
  • Schedule, supervise, and lead hourly operating and maintenance personnel, working directly with employees on the shop floor and from the Shift Manager's office.
  • Train, coach, and develop employees while fostering a fair and respectful work environment focused on safety, teamwork, and production excellence.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams, planners, and schedulers to prioritize corrective and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Make timely decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and escalate issues when appropriate.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and support initiatives that enhance reliability, quality, safety, and productivity.
  • Coordinate with employees, contractors, and other departments to support production and maintenance activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from an accredited school.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, military, or other relevant operations environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, within a 24/7 operating environment; extended hours as needed.
  • Ability to work in a hot, dusty industrial environment and perform physical requirements including climbing stairs and ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and exposure to databases.
  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Three or more years of leadership experience in a unionized heavy industrial or military environment, with responsibility for workforce accountability, performance management, and operational communication.
  • Prior steel mill experience strongly preferred.

The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $110,000. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.
