Job description

*At Securian Financial the internal position title is Actuarial Sr Con.*
Position Overview:
This position is part of the Life Product Development team within the Individual Solutions market segment. This role will be responsible for leading and supporting product development initiatives that help achieve Securian's Life sales, earnings, and capital objectives. This role requires expertise in Securian's Life Insurance products, an understanding of the regulatory environment surrounding life products, and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across the organization to compete and win.
This role will serve as primary Traditional Life product actuarial partner across Individual Solutions and enterprise teams. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual with strong actuarial judgement, technical expertise, and clear communication skills to successfully bring products to market and manage them post launch.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Drive execution of product initiatives from concept through launch, including design, pricing, filing, illustrations, system, marketing, education, and working with external vendors where appropriate.
  • Fixed & Variable Rate Setting -- provide recommendations (in partnership with Finance) for interest sensitive product elements, including but not limited to indexed account caps, fixed account rates, variable loan rates, and other non-guaranteed elements.
  • Make decisions for product exception requests for large case pricing, illustrations, policy size, and unique one-off situations.
  • Develop and leverage internal and external relationships necessary to understand the individual life competitive landscape and successfully launch and service products.
  • Support ongoing product management by monitoring performance, competitiveness, regulatory developments, and emerging product risks.
  • Prepare and sign statements of actuarial opinion for traditional life insurance filings with various state insurance departments and respond to objections where appropriate.
  • Work direct life pricing associates & actuaries to advance ad hoc analyses, product research, and product implementation.
  • Represent Individual Solutions Product and Actuarial as a senior consultant and expert in governance forums and cross-functional committees, providing technical viewpoints and strong engagement with others.

Qualifications:
  • FSA designation
  • Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
  • 10-15+ years of life product development experience with an emphasis on UL, IUL, and VUL products.
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory environment governing life insurance products, including illustration regulations, state jurisdictions, and filing requirements.
  • Strong understanding of and collaboration with distribution partners, including BGAs, BDs, FIs, and other key distribution channels.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with wide range of associates across the organization.
  • Ability to synthesize complex & detailed analysis for senior leadership.
  • Strong creative, analytical, and problem-solving skills to analyze information and form recommendations.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with a variety of individuals, including cross-functional partners and work directing other associates.
  • Adaptable in a rapidly changing environment with the ability to respond to changing priorities.

The estimated base pay range for this job is:
$111,300.00 - $207,800.00
