Job Title: Claims Assistant (Full Time)


Job Description

We are seeking a Claims Assistant to support the operations of the Claims Department and company. The primary responsibilities of the position are the intake of new claims, setup of new claim files, preparation of correspondence to our insureds, maintenance of document repositories, processing invoices, and reporting claim results to state and national agencies. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Claims in our Glastonbury, CT office.


Responsibilities

Core Functions

·        Handling intake of all new claims

·        Initial electronic file set up

·        Preparation of correspondence to our insureds

·        Answering the Claims Department general telephone and e-mail

·        Fielding various inquiries made to the Claims Department

·        Obtaining and organizing relevant medical records

·        Organizing and maintaining document repositories

·        Obtaining and processing legal, expert, and vendor invoices

·        Obtaining and organizing vendor payment information (i.e. W9 tax forms)

·        Assisting in file and document management

·        Reporting claim outcomes to various administrative bodies, including but not limited to National Practitioners’ Data Bank

·        Reporting claim outcomes to state and national agencies

·        Assisting in claim reporting

·        Other duties as assigned

General

·        Maximizing productivity through use of technology

·        Enhancing the efficiency and team environment in Claim Department through collaboration and positive interactions with other claim personnel


Support of Company Operations

·        Assisting efforts to compile and analyze claim data

·        Periodic support for and/or attendance at company functions

·        Providing feedback on efficiency of administrative processes

·        Performing administrative tasks for other departments as work capacity permits.


Qualifications and Skills

·        High school degree required, associate’s degree or higher preferred, bachelor’s degree a plus

·        3+ years of corporate office experience preferred

·        Competent at using MS Office suite of products

·        Excellent time management skills

·        Ability to meet deadlines while managing a diverse suite of responsibilities

·        Attention to detail and problem-solving skills

·        Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task

·        Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

·        An appreciation for the time sensitive confidential nature of professional liability claims

·        Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment
