Position Summary
The Mortgage Claims Recovery Specialist is responsible for managing the timely filing, tracking, recovery, and reconciliation of mortgage-related insurance, government, investor, and reimbursement claims. This role plays a critical part in maximizing recoveries, minimizing losses, and ensuring compliance with investor, insurer, regulatory, and contractual requirements.
The Mortgage Claims Recovery Specialist partners with internal departments, investors, insurers, attorneys, trustees, title companies, and third-party vendors to ensure claims are accurately prepared, submitted, monitored, and resolved. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced mortgage servicing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Claims Recovery & Administration
  • Prepare, review, submit, and manage Mortgage Insurance (MI), FHA/HUD, VA, USDA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, investor reimbursement, and other applicable claims from initiation through final resolution.
  • Ensure claim submissions comply with all investor, insurer, regulatory, and contractual requirements.
  • Monitor claim inventories and proactively follow up to ensure timely processing and recovery of proceeds.
  • Research and resolve claim deficiencies, denials, curtailments, rescissions, and other claim exceptions.
  • Coordinate reimbursement and recovery efforts related to foreclosure, bankruptcy, property preservation, title, tax, and other default servicing activities.

Claims Analysis & Recovery Optimization
  • Review claim documentation, servicing records, and loan histories to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Analyze losses and identify opportunities to improve recoveries and reduce claim-related losses.
  • Assist with claim appeals and escalations when additional recovery opportunities exist.
  • Identify trends, recurring deficiencies, and process improvement opportunities impacting claim performance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Default Servicing, Bankruptcy, Foreclosure, Loss Mitigation, Property Preservation, Accounting, and Investor Reporting teams to obtain and validate claim documentation.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, trustees, vendors, title companies, insurers, and investors to resolve claim-related issues.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource regarding claim requirements, filing procedures, and recovery activities.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors supporting claims administration and post-foreclosure activities.
  • Monitor vendor performance and ensure compliance with established service-level expectations.

Reporting & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate claim records, system documentation, and supporting files.
  • Prepare and distribute recovery, aging, inventory, and management reports.
  • Ensure compliance with investor guidelines, insurer requirements, company policies, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Support internal audits, external audits, investor reviews, and regulatory examinations.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Familiarity with mortgage servicing systems and claims platforms, including ICE Mortgage Technology LoanSphere Claims and Proven Claims.

Education & Experience:
Required
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of experience in mortgage servicing, claims administration, default servicing, foreclosure, bankruptcy, investor reporting, or a related field.

Preferred
  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of mortgage servicing, default servicing, or mortgage claims experience.

Computer Skills
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and Teams.
  • Experience utilizing mortgage servicing platforms and claims management systems.
  • Preferred experience with ICE Mortgage Technology and Proven products, including MSP Director, Invoice Management, LoanSphere, LoanSphere Claims, and Proven Claims.

Travel
This position is primarily remote/office-based and generally does not require travel. Limited travel may be required periodically to support business needs, training, or team collaboration activities.
