Job Summary

Provides information, referral, assessment, and admissions into hospital-based levels of care. Obtains initial insurance authorizations to all hospital-based levels of care.

Essential Functions

  • All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's purpose: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.

  • Receives and responds to behavioral health resource inquiries regarding available hospital and community services. Documents in accordance to departmental procedures.

  • Performs and documents patient assessments to include patient current symptoms, dangerous to self and others, treatment history, mental status, and substance abuse in accordance with regulatory requirements for determining appropriate level of care. Provide necessary clinical information to physicians, units/programs, utilization review, and referral sources.

  • Collaborates with community resources, business office, physicians, nursing staff, utilization review and others in order to provide patient access to the most appropriate level of care.

  • Obtains insurance authorization for admission from third-party payers either by phone, fax, or electronically. Communicates the results of the insurance authorization to the Utilization Review Department.

  • Utilizes critical thinking skills and crisis intervention skills to respond to acute psychiatric situations and seeks assistance from other clinical staff as needed.

  • Assist in front lobby coverage.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Master's degree in Social Work/Counseling

  • Experience - One (1) year - Experience in psychiatric triage/psycho-social assessment and intervention

In Lieu Of

  • A RN with one (1) year of psychiatric experience.

  • Team members employed in this job prior to July 1, 2020, are grandfathered under prior educational and experience requirements. In addition, team members must be certification eligible and will have one year to obtain required certification.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

LMSW, LPC, LPC-A, or holds a current RN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State or is licensed to practice as an RN in the state the team member is working
