Our MRI Authorization Coordinator performs all duties related to direct contact with insurance providers to obtain authorizations for MRIs, obtain retro-authorizations and file appeals. This role will also perform duties of Patient Services Specialist occasionally to provide seamless coverage throughout scheduled work day and during staffing shortages.

  • Calls to get pre-certifications including faxing clinical notes and supportive documents and follow up
  • Notifies physician and nurses of denials and peer to peer requests and performs follow up
  • Obtains retro-authorizations and writes appeal letters as neededAssist in tracking monthly outsourced MRIs. (Excel spreadsheet)
  • Works closely with MRI Technologists and Patient Access Specialists to maintain the MRI schedule
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality following HIPAA guidelines
  • Fills in for MRI Patient Access Specialists as needed
  • Fills in at other MRI facilities as needed
  • Assists MRI Director with other projects as needed
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality following HIPAA guidelines

Requirements

Among the qualification and requirements for this role:

  • Minimum 6 months related experience and/or training in a healthcare environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • While a college degree is preferred, a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required

The successful candidate should possess:

  • Exceptional customer service orientation and demonstrated capacity to work in a team
  • Working knowledge of CPT and ICD9/ICD10 coding
  • Working knowledge of insurance provider Imaging Guidelines
  • Working knowledge of denials and appeals
  • Must be able to multi-task
  • Must be organized and responsible
  • Knowledge of clinic cash policies and procedures
  • Basic computer skills. (Excel experience a plus)
  • Basic office clerical skills
  • Simple math and calculator skills
  • Customer relations skills
  • Honesty
  • History of dependability
