Job description

Founded in 1920, Akerman is recognized as one of the nation's premier law firms, with more than 700 lawyers across the United States.
Akerman is seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Administrative Assistant for its Los Angeles, California office. Qualified candidates should have a minimum of seven (7) years' experience supporting senior level litigation attorneys with a high-volume workload. Akerman LLP has adopted a hybrid work environment which will require in-office support a minimum of three (3) days per week. Extended hours are sometimes necessary to meet client and firm deadlines.
Responsibilities, include but not limited to the following:
  1. Maintain attorneys' calendars by scheduling appointments, depositions, meetings (external and internal), hearings, mediations, etc.
  2. Maintain electronic files in document management system.
  3. Proficient in both federal and state court procedure and filing requirements, including e-filing in federal, appellate, and bankruptcy courts.
  4. Familiar with civil, arbitration procedures/filings including procedures for JAMS, AAA, etc.
  5. Trial preparation.
  6. Prepare and/or proof correspondence, pleadings, discovery, motions, etc. while consulting with attorneys.
  7. Run conflict checks, open new client matters, and with attorney's direction, draft engagement letters and other required documents.
  8. Assist with client billing (Paperless Billing).
  9. Process expense reimbursements and invoices (Chrome River)

Requirements:
  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  2. High attention to detail.
  3. Demonstrate a courteous and professional demeanor.
  4. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  5. Able to work as a team with attorneys and other colleagues.
  6. Must be proficient in e-filing (both state and federal courts).
  7. Familiar with civil, arbitration procedures/filings including procedures for JAMS, AAA, etc.
  8. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint).
  9. Skilled in using PDF programs/software.
  10. Working knowledge of litigation management software systems.
  11. Working knowledge of document management software.

Schedule: Monday through Friday
Salary range: $90,000 - $105,000 (Actual salary is based on experience and job qualifications.)
Bonus: Discretionary holiday bonus
