Job description

Director, Insurance Risk Management

Managing the activities of insurance professionals/administrators responsible for ensuring that the property and casualty insurance coverage for the properties collateralizing NewPoint Real Estate Capital's loans remains compliant with the requirements of the loan documents. The Director, Insurance Risk Management, also has responsibility for NewPoint Real Estate Capital's adherence to investor guidelines, servicing contracts, and service level agreements. This position is responsible for optimizing the use of technology, defining and implementing best practices, and training and developing associates.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage insurance associates and their work on a day-to-day basis. Schedule workflow so that all tasks are accomplished, and issues are resolved in a timely and efficient manner, and in compliance with policies and procedures and relevant loan documents.
  • During the loan originations process, review the insurance coverage proposed or in place (in the case of refi's) for reasonableness as to coverages, exclusions, limits, etc., and for compliance with program guidelines and loan documents. Assist underwriters and closers with technical P&C and liability insurance questions and issues.
  • Cross train associates so they can work with multiple investor types, both to improve the work experience and to eliminate key-main issues.
  • Make staffing decisions for team member positions.
  • Provide employee feedback on a real-time basis, and complete annual performance evaluations.
  • Work with associates to maintain strict compliance with the company's policies and procedures, with an ongoing focus on improving existing processes and procedures as opportunities arise.
  • Work with associates to see that all training needs, both technical and interpersonal, are met in a timely manner.
  • Participate in the development and ongoing compliance with Key Performance Indicators.
  • Monitor and understand both lending and insurance industry trends (e.g., outsourcing), legislation and availability.
  • Assist servicing team in processing catastrophic insurance claims.
  • Lead and participate in servicing and other company projects, as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of commercial property and casualty insurance tracking and compliance associated with commercial mortgage servicing, including but not limited to:
    • Commercial mortgage loan documents
    • Various income-producing property types
    • P&C insurance documents, including ACORD certificates, binders, declaration pages and policies
    • Typical and specialty P&C insurance perils, terms, limits, exclusions, etc.
    • Commercial and Umbrella Excess Liability
    • Blanket policies
    • Flood and seismic zones
    • Force-placed insurance
    • Borrower/broker/carrier and borrower/agent/carrier relationships
  • Strong leadership, management, and problem-solving abilities
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
  • Accuracy oriented with a sense of urgency and strong focus on customer service
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • BBA in Finance, Real Estate or Accounting preferred, MBA a plus
  • CPCU, CISR, CIC or related certification
  • 8 - 10 years of P&C insurance experience, predominantly involving commercial real estate
  • Experience with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and/or FHA/Ginnie Mae, CMBS/CLO, Life Insurance Company
  • Demonstrated ability to manage uneven/cyclical workloads and tight deadlines
  • Working knowledge of commercial real estate finance including an understanding of all types of loans, property types and real estate lenders
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage a team
  • Development of and management to Key Performance Indicators
  • MBA CCMS Level I and/or II certification a plus
  • Working knowledge of Enterprise! (or similar large scale servicing system)
