Instructor/Lecturer Actuarial Science and Risk Management
College of Liberal Arts & Sciences

The Actuarial Science and Risk Management program in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign invites applications for an Instructor or Lecturer.
This position is a one-year appointment; renewal of the position is contingent on availability of funding, positive performance reviews and sufficient course enrollments.
Duties
โ€ข Preparing and teaching actuarial science and risk management content for corresponding courses. These may include large service courses and small discussion sections.
โ€ข Monitoring and mentoring teaching assistants and graders for these courses.
โ€ข Holding regular office hours to meet with students outside of class time.
โ€ข Writing and grading examinations and assigning grades.
โ€ข Develop and maintain curriculum and stewardship material for these courses. Willingness to undertake additional responsibilities as the undergraduate director, as needed.
Required Qualifications
Candidates who are ABD or hold a Master's degree in Actuarial Science or related areas such as Mathematics, Statistics, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance or another subject appropriate for Actuarial Science and a record of teaching effectiveness or professional training at the graduate and undergraduate levels will be considered as an Instructor.
Candidates with a Ph.D.in Actuarial Science or related areas such as Mathematics, Statistics, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or another subject appropriate for Actuarial Science and a record of teaching effectiveness or professional training at the graduate and undergraduate levels will be considered as a Lecturer.
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of college teaching or similar corporate training experience.
Experiences with actuarial professional exams.
Professional credentials such as the Associate or the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, etc.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time academic position, appointed on a 9-month basis. The expected start date is August 16, 2026. The budgeted salary ranges for the position are Instructor: 60,000-70,000 and Lecturer: $78,000 - $88,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. This position is eligible for sponsorship for work authorization, except for sponsorship of a new H1B petition that would incur the $100,000 fee. This position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University's Workplace Flexibility policy.
