American Freedom Insurance Company (AFIC) is a leader in the nonstandard automobile insurance industry. We are an expanding midsized, highly profitable company doing business in Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and with a license in Ohio. We are looking for a committed experienced candidate to contribute their skills in a fast paced and growing organization. AFIC is a financially strong "A+" (Superior) AM Best and "A+" Better Business Bureau rated non-standard automobile insurer.


Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of a diverse caseload of third-party automobile injury claims, proactively investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and resolving claims at all stages, including unrepresented, represented, early litigation, and time-sensitive policy limit demand cases.
  • Able to easily comprehend and apply policy language provisions, conditions and exclusions, incorporating knowledge of applicable state laws, judicial decisions and regulations
  • Responsible for an inventory of casualty claim files
  • Identify high-risk matters, maintain appropriate follow-up, and take timely action to mitigate unnecessary claim exposure, including legal, financial, and extra-contractual risk
  • Draft coverage position letters, denials or correspondence as needed
  • Manage claims to achieve fair and efficient timely resolutions while minimizing indemnity, defense, and claim expenses through effective investigation, evaluation, and negotiation
  • Able to work across teams in the claim department to collaborate and mentor personnel on coverage and liability concepts, driving accurate and timely decisions and settlement amounts
  • Identify process improvements to optimize business outcomes and increase efficiency
  • Assist in responding to attorney, regulatory, produce, vendor, and consumer inquiries
Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years auto insurance casualty claim experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Spanish Speaking a plus
  • Advanced knowledge and proven success in the resolution of complex, severe-injury claims
  • Non-standard auto insurance experience preferred but not required - Tennessee experience a plus
  • Proficient and effective negotiation skills on complex claims
  • Attention to detail producing high quality work product
  • Able to critically think and offer practical solutions
  • Strong coverage and liability analysis skills
  • Knowledge of state laws and regulations relative to claim practices
  • Ability to solve problems and find solutions expeditiously
  • Understand concepts of court processes
  • Ability and willingness to present interesting coverage and/or liability cases to management and other adjusters in the Casualty team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with technology, primarily Microsoft Office – Word and Excel
