Job description

Position Summary 

Rue Insurance’s Account Managers are trusted advisors that liaise between clients and insurance carriers to convey information, provide understanding, and ensure work is performed in an accurate, timely manner. Commercial Lines Account Managers are primarily responsible for providing outstanding client service and advisory support to all new and existing clients in a book of business (accounts above $25k in premium). Quality of work must exemplify the best-in-class service standards established by Rue Insurance at all times. The Account Manager’s main focus is to build and maintain client relationships to support the new business and retention goals of their department.  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Manage the servicing responsibilities of a book of business, including policy renewals, requests for policy changes and proofs of insurance, contract and insurance requirement reviews, and assist with onboarding new clients  
  • Process client coverage renewals in a timely manner, from obtaining updated client operations and exposure data, to obtaining renewal quotations from insurers, analyzing and disclosing coverage changes, preparing renewal proposals for client presentation, and binding coverage 
  • Prepare complete marketing submissions with detailed instructions for Rue’s Marketing Department when remarketing is requested – continue to work closely with marketer until final renewal or replacement of coverage  
  • Proactively identify opportunities to educate clients, initiate inter-agency referrals, and offer enhanced or new coverage/account rounding recommendations to minimize client risk

  • Handle all client requests (internal and external) in a timely, friendly, empathetic and professional manner  
  • Perform assigned responsibilities in accordance with the agency-established client service standards  
  • Independently handle all routine client servicing without producer involvement  
  • Build and maintain long-term client relationships to support the departmental retention goals  
  • Provide clients a clear response on coverage or billing questions including information on rate fluctuations or policy changes to ensure full understanding 
  • Follow all agency processes and procedures, including but not limited to, Epic Workflows, client documentation, paper and electronic records retention guidelines, etc.  
  • Accompany producers on client visits to accounts, as requested  
  • Participate in educational programs to enhance knowledge and skills, and/or achieve or maintain professional designation(s)  
  • Be familiar with and follow agency E&O guidelines  
  • Attend and actively participate in regular department and monthly company Meetings  
  • Perform all other duties or projects as assigned by management  

Reports to: Commercial Lines Manager              
Department: Commercial Lines  
Work Schedule & Classification: Full-time, salaried (non-exempt) position  
Salary: $65,000 - $95,000 plus bonus opportunity based on company and individual performance 
Physical Requirements: Must be capable of sitting for a long period of time, working on a computer, standing, and walking.   

Required Qualifications 

  • Valid NJ Property and Casualty Insurance Licenses 
  • At least 3 years of commercial lines account management experience  
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills  
  • Excellent organization skills with strong attention to detail  
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills  
  • Excellent customer service mindset and skills  
  • Ability to multi-task and complete work with a sense of urgency  
  • Team player with a positive attitude  
  • Knowledge of insurance company rating systems  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 
  • Experience with agency management software 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree  
  • Experience using Applied Systems Epic 
  • Active Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) designation 
  • Active Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) Insurance Designation
