Job Description: Position Summary Omega Contractors is seeking an experienced Electrical Quality Control Inspector to perform in-process inspections, verify completed electrical installations, coordinate pre-energization testing, and maintain accurate quality-control records throughout each project. The Electrical QC Inspector will confirm that work is installed in accordance with the project drawings, approved submittals, specifications, applicable codes, manufacturer instructions, and Omega Contractors’ quality-control procedures. The inspector will document inspection and test results, track deficiencies through correction and closure, and upload completed records, photographs, test reports, and supporting documentation to the designated project portal. This is a field-focused position requiring strong electrical construction knowledge, careful documentation, professional coordination with field supervision, and the authority to identify work that is incomplete, nonconforming, unsafe, or not ready for testing or energization.Primary ResponsibilitiesIn-Process Electrical Inspections Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections of electrical work while installation is in progress. Verify installation against the latest approved drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, field directives, and applicable codes. Confirm that crews are working from the current approved construction documents. Inspect concealed work before walls, ceilings, slabs, trenches, equipment, or other assemblies are closed or covered. Verify the installation, support, routing, identification, accessibility, workmanship, and physical protection of electrical systems. Inspect raceways, cable tray, conductors, cable, boxes, grounding and bonding, equipment connections, terminations, supports, sleeves, penetrations, firestopping, and labeling. Verify conductor size, type, insulation rating, color identification, routing, pulling requirements, bend radius, separation, and termination. Confirm equipment and materials match approved submittals and are free from visible damage, contamination, or improper storage. Verify required listing, labeling, environmental ratings, short-circuit ratings, and equipment application where shown in the contract documents. Check equipment clearances, working space, dedicated space, accessibility, housekeeping pads, anchorage, and coordination with other trades. Confirm bolted electrical connections and terminations are tightened and documented in accordance with manufacturer requirements. Verify that grounding and bonding connections are complete, accessible where required, and properly identified. Inspect panelboards, switchboards, transformers, disconnects, motor-control equipment, distribution equipment, and utilization equipment before closeout or energization. Perform above-ceiling, underground, rough-in, equipment-set, cable-pull, termination, and final installation inspections as applicable. Identify incomplete, damaged, defective, or nonconforming work before it affects subsequent activities. Notify the responsible superintendent, foreman, and project management team of deficiencies requiring corrective action. Maintain inspection status by system, area, floor, room, equipment number, feeder, or work package. Pre-Energization Inspection and Testing Conduct or witness required electrical testing before systems are approved for energization. Confirm that the approved pre-energization plan, test procedure, and energization authorization process are being followed. Verify that testing instruments are appropriate for the application and have current calibration documentation. Review equipment and manufacturer requirements before testing to prevent damage to sensitive electronic components. Confirm that circuits and equipment are properly isolated, locked out, and placed in an electrically safe work condition before testing, except where an approved procedure specifically requires otherwise. Verify conductor continuity, grounding-conductor continuity, bonding, and the absence of unintended shorts or grounds. Perform or witness insulation-resistance testing when required by the project specifications, manufacturer, commissioning plan, or Omega Contractors’ procedures. Verify torque documentation for applicable electrical equipment and terminations. Confirm feeder and branch-circuit identification at both ends. Verify phase identification, circuit identification, voltage configuration, and transformer taps. Check phase-to-phase, phase-to-neutral, and phase-to-ground conditions before energization, as applicable. Verify polarity, phase rotation, control wiring, and point-to-point continuity when required. Confirm overcurrent-protection devices, settings, ratings, and equipment labels match the approved design and coordination requirements. Verify that temporary grounds, tools, pull ropes, foreign materials, and construction debris have been removed before equipment is closed and energized. Confirm equipment covers, dead fronts, barriers, guards, and access panels are properly installed. Verify required warning labels, arc-flash labels, equipment identification, circuit directories, and source identification are installed before turnover or energization. Document all readings, test conditions, instrument information, acceptance criteria, deficiencies, corrective work, and final disposition. Do not approve a system for energization when required inspections, documentation, testing, corrections, or authorizations remain incomplete. Immediately escalate unsafe conditions, failed tests, damaged equipment, questionable readings, or deviations from approved procedures. Testing shall be performed only by qualified personnel using approved procedures, properly rated test instruments, appropriate personal protective equipment, and applicable lockout/tagout and electrical-safety requirements. Energized diagnostic work is not automatically included and may only be performed when specifically authorized and supported by the required safety planning.Documentation and Portal Administration Complete inspection checklists, test forms, deficiency reports, nonconformance reports, punch-list records, and closeout documentation. Record inspection results clearly, accurately, and promptly. Photograph inspected installations, test setups, equipment nameplates, instrument readings, deficiencies, corrective actions, and completed work when required. Clearly identify documentation by project, building, area, room, system, equipment number, feeder, circuit, and inspection date. Verify that records are complete, legible, signed, dated, and traceable to the inspected work. Upload inspection forms, test reports, calibration certificates, photographs, deficiency records, corrective-action evidence, and supporting documents to the designated project portal. Follow the project’s required naming convention, folder structure, workflow, status codes, and document-control procedures. Confirm each upload is successful, readable, correctly categorized, and associated with the correct inspection or system. Maintain an organized inspection and testing log showing open, failed, corrected, accepted, and closed items. Track deficiencies through correction, reinspection, documentation, and formal closure. Prevent duplicate, incomplete, outdated, or incorrectly assigned records from being submitted. Provide timely updates to field supervision and project management regarding inspection status, failed tests, outstanding deficiencies, and systems approaching energization. Support turnover packages by reconciling required quality-control records against the project closeout matrix. Coordination and Communication Coordinate inspections with project managers, superintendents, general foremen, foremen, safety personnel, commissioning agents, testing agencies, equipment vendors, engineers, general contractors, owners, and inspectors. Plan inspection activities around the project schedule so that quality requirements do not unnecessarily delay installation, concealment, testing, or energization. Communicate deficiencies directly and professionally, with clear references to the applicable drawing, specification, approved submittal, manufacturer requirement, code provision, or quality-control procedure. Participate in preconstruction, coordination, quality-control, commissioning, energization, and turnover meetings as assigned. Assist field leadership in identifying recurring workmanship issues and developing corrective actions. Support root-cause investigations for failed inspections, failed tests, equipment damage, rework, and nonconforming installations. Provide field feedback that improves installation quality, crew productivity, documentation, and first-pass acceptance. Maintain professional relationships while independently protecting Omega Contractors’ quality and contractual interests. Minimum Qualifications Five or more years of commercial or industrial electrical construction experience. Journey-level electrical experience or equivalent field expertise strongly preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of electrical distribution, raceway, conductor, grounding and bonding, controls, and equipment installation. Experience performing electrical quality-control inspections, commissioning support, testing, startup, or field supervision. Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, schedules, details, specifications, submittals, equipment data, and manufacturer instructions. Working knowledge of the currently adopted National Electrical Code, applicable local requirements, and recognized electrical construction practices. Working knowledge of OSHA electrical-safety requirements and NFPA 70E principles. Experience using digital inspection forms, project-management software, document-control systems, or customer portals. Ability to use electrical test instruments safely and correctly. Ability to produce accurate, complete, and professional inspection records. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple inspection activities, and meet project deadlines. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to assigned project locations. Ability to pass project-specific background, drug-screening, safety, and site-access requirements when applicable. Preferred Qualifications Texas Journeyman Electrician or Texas Master Electrician license. Quality-control experience on large commercial, industrial, manufacturing, mission-critical, healthcare, utility, or high-technology projects. Experience with low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical distribution systems. Experience with insulation-resistance testing, ground-resistance testing, continuity testing, torque verification, phase-rotation testing, and point-to-point verification. Familiarity with acceptance-testing standards and commissioning procedures. OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Construction certification. NFPA 70E training. Experience with Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, SharePoint, or similar platforms. Knowledge and Competencies The successful candidate should demonstrate: Strong understanding of electrical installation sequencing and constructability. Attention to detail without losing awareness of schedule and production requirements. Ability to distinguish between code requirements, contract requirements, manufacturer requirements, and recommended practices. Good judgment regarding when an issue requires immediate correction, formal documentation, engineering clarification, manufacturer input, or AHJ review. Ability to recognize potential equipment damage, improper application, installation conflicts, and energization hazards. Consistent documentation and follow-through. Confidence communicating inspection findings to experienced field personnel. Professional objectivity when determining whether work is acceptable. Commitment to safety, workmanship, accountability, and continuous improvement. Authority and Accountability The Electrical QC Inspector is authorized and expected to: Reject or withhold acceptance of incomplete or nonconforming work. Require corrective action and reinspection before an item is closed. Withhold QC approval for energization when required inspections, testing, documentation, or corrections are incomplete. Stop an inspection or test when conditions are unsafe, the procedure is not approved, the instrument is unsuitable, or personnel are not properly qualified. Escalate unresolved quality, safety, design, or scope issues to project management. Maintain factual, accurate, and objective records of inspection and testing activities. The Electrical QC Inspector does not independently modify the engineering design, approve substitutions, waive contract requirements, direct unsafe energized work, or authorize energization outside Omega Contractors’ approved process. Design conflicts and deviations must be routed through the appropriate RFI, submittal, engineering, manufacturer, client, or AHJ process.Physical and Work Requirements Regularly walk active construction sites and access work areas by stairs, ladders, lifts, or temporary access routes. Stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work around installed electrical equipment. Lift and carry test instruments, documentation equipment, and other items weighing up to 50 pounds. Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures, lighting conditions, noise levels, and construction environments. Wear required personal protective equipment. Work scheduled shifts, overtime, weekends, shutdowns, or off-hours when required by inspection, testing, or energization activities. Travel between project areas or job sites as assigned.
