Job description

Description This position serves as a point of contact for visitors at the Discover Denison Visitor Center. This intern will provide assistance with directions, information requests, and promote local attractions. This role will also serve as administrative support for the Marketing and Tourism Department, as well as individual travelers and groups.

Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Staff the Discover Denison Visitors Center, providing a welcoming and professional experience for visitors Assist guests with directions and information on local attractions, events, dining, and activities Answer phone and email inquiries related to tourism and visitor services Fulfill Visitor Guide requests and assist with maintaining accurate printed materials Assist with organizing and distributing visitor bags for group tours and meetings Help maintain an inviting, organized lobby stocked with current brochures and materials Assist with social media content creation, including photos, videos, captions, and reels Assist with reviewing, updating, and maintaining the Discover Denison website to ensure tourism information, event listings, business details, and visitor resources remain accurate, current, and visually engaging Help cover events through stories or real-time content (as schedule allows) Capture and organize photos and videos for marketing and promotional use Assist with collecting upcoming events, new business spotlights, and community stories for the Discover Denison newsletter Research tourism, hospitality, and destination marketing trends Assist visitors with merchandise purchases, admissions, or other applicable transactions at the Discover Denison Visitor Center using established point-of-sale procedures Support the Discover Denison team with additional tasks as needed KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Ability to work with the public and co-workers in a professional manner using excellent customer service and interpersonal skills Knowledge of tourism, hospitality, marketing, or visitor experience and willingness to learn more Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to quickly learn other software tools as needed Ability to use strong organizational skills in order to manage multiple tasks and provide accurate, timely information Knowledge of Denison's attractions, events, and tourism assets and willingness to learn more Ability to maintain detailed records and reports Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral formats Ability to manage interruptions while ensuring a positive visitor experience Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees and the general public Ability to use sound judgment in directing public and fulfilling customer service needs/requests Highly skilled in customer service practices to quickly and efficiently tend to visitor's needs Ability to maintain consistent and timely attendance Some evenings or Saturdays may be required for events or peak visitor times Nothing in this job description limits management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.
