What is an instructor manager?

Instructor Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing and supporting a team of instructors within an educational or training organization. They handle tasks such as hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating instructors to ensure high-quality teaching and program delivery. Instructor Managers also provide guidance, resolve conflicts, and help implement curriculum improvements. Their role is essential in maintaining educational standards and fostering a positive learning environment.

How does an instructor manager typically support and develop the instructional team?

An Instructor Manager plays a key role in mentoring and guiding instructors by providing ongoing feedback, organizing professional development sessions, and facilitating regular team meetings to discuss best practices. They often conduct classroom observations and offer constructive advice to help instructors improve their teaching methods. Additionally, Instructor Managers coordinate schedules, manage conflict resolution, and act as a bridge between instructors and upper management to ensure alignment with organizational goals. This collaborative approach helps foster a supportive work environment and encourages continuous growth for both individual instructors and the team as a whole.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an instructor manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Instructor Manager, you need strong leadership abilities, experience in educational program management, and typically a bachelor's degree in education or a related field. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), curriculum development tools, and staff scheduling software is highly beneficial. Exceptional communication, organizational, and conflict resolution skills help motivate teams and foster a positive learning environment. These skills ensure effective oversight of instructional staff, high-quality program delivery, and the achievement of educational goals.

Position: Head Instructor

Job Overview:

You’ll lead a team of engaged professionals that have a passion for fitness and helping our members feel empowered!! As a Head Instructor, you can expect to perform the following duties:

  • Leading and motivating members through pre-defined workouts.

  • Making sure members are using the correct form and offering corrections if they aren’t.

  • Understanding the science behind our workouts, heart-rate-focused training programs, and being aware of what the competition is doing.

  • Knowing how to use and demonstrate usage for every piece of equipment used in every workout.

  • 5-10 administrative hours per week.

  • Being a team player.

Responsibilities:
  • Hire, train, and schedule Instructors alongside the Studio Manager.

  • Manage, develop, evaluate, and execute the performance of all KickHouse Fitness Instructors and train staff for continued success and future growth.

  • Regularly attend training and bring learnings back to the coaching staff for implementation.

  • Attend KickHouse classes a minimum of once a week.

  • Work directly with the Studio Manager to increase studio utilization and workout traffic.

  • Promote the studio and the KickHouse brand through social media efforts by directing staff to participate in marketing campaigns.

  • Execute and coordinate marketing efforts through demos and pop-ups (pre-sale events, studio events, outreach).

  • Responsible for meeting key performance indicators (KPI’s): utilization, attrition, and conversions.

  • Meet or exceed personal goals as well as studio total goals.

  • Act as a brand ambassador for community engagement, lead generation, civil networking, and collaboration.

As a Head Instructor, You Have:
  • Managerial and operations experience

  • An enthusiastic, personable, and friendly disposition

  • A passion for health and wellness

  • A “teamwork makes the dream work” attitude

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Pay & Benefits:
  • Starting Pay: $20/hour for coaching and administrative duties

  • Sales Commission: Earn additional income through membership and retail sales
