Job description

Adaptive Aquatics Instructor Aide (PT)
Recreation Department – Aquatics Division
Salary: $19.00/hourly

Join our aquatics team at the beautiful Evelyn Kirrane Aquatics Center in Brookline, featuring three pools and year-round programming in athletics, health, wellness, and camp activities. We are seeking a part-time Adaptive Aquatics Instructor Aide to assist in providing adaptive swim instruction for participants with disabilities in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. This role supports participants with physical, sensory, developmental, neurological, or other health challenges. Work takes place primarily at the pool, with occasional programming outdoors or in the community. Weekly hours are scheduled based on participant enrollment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist lead instructors in providing adaptive swim instruction and in-water support for participants with disabilities.
  • Help implement specialized, inclusive group programs and support participants in meeting lesson goals.
  • Adapt teaching approaches to participants’ age, experience, and ability, while maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
  • Communicate regularly with lead instructors regarding participant progress and behavior.
  • Assist with equipment set-up, breakdown, and other program support tasks.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies in accordance with facility protocols.

Qualifications

Experience working with individuals in progressive level group swim lessons or with participants with disabilities preferred., particularly in aquatics or recreation settings. The ideal candidate demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to collaborate effectively with lead instructors, participants, and families.

Additional Requirements: Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification (or equivalent) preferred.
