Job description

BAS Controls Systems Installer IV-V

Reports to: Controls Area Construction Manager         

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $38-$54 per hour

The Opportunity

Must have extensive construction site experience, be willing to work in unfinished or occupied buildings with basic hand tools and possess a valid driver's license.  Demonstrates a high level of knowledge of control, mechanical and electrical systems.  Must have good communication skills, be self-motivated and possess leadership skills.

Responsibilities: 

  • Installs control system components for an entire project without supervision
  • Understands each component of a controls submittal with the ability to create and implement a plan for installation with a comprehensive approach
  • Able to determine wire and material needed on a daily and weekly basis for effective project workflow
  • Maintains an efficient work schedule while monitoring critical paths and concerns
  • Uses digital multimeters and other tools for troubleshooting all types of control devices and signals as well as related systems and components
  • Understands mechanical and electrical plans and how they relate to the installation of controls
  • Able to follow and understand electrical wiring diagrams for mechanical equipment and efficiently troubleshoot issues
  • Performs complex conduit work for both indoor and outdoor applications
  • Accurately reports detailed information to supervisor and other stakeholders
  • Leads team of installers and acts as the competent on-site person
  • Handles customer & contractor issues, complaints, questions appropriately either by direct interaction or bringing in appropriate support through supervisor or peers
  • Leads by example in all aspects - work ethic, professionalism, quality / workmanship, attitude, etc.
  • Provides instruction and leadership

Level Descriptions

  • Level V - Candidate requires little to no support with high level tasks such as installation of central plant controls, complex relay logic, hard-wired interlocks to major equipment, and other areas of work that requires a solid foundational knowledge of controls and related equipment.  Can be trusted to fully execute and/or direct the daily installation tasks performed on projects through the project timeline with little support for installation details.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma; degree in HVAC/R Technology or equivalent BAS experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in construction or controls industry
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of HVAC equipment and technology
  • Thorough understanding of most types of control devices and how they work
  • Use of digital multimeter and other tools for troubleshooting
  • Takes ownership and accountability of assigned projects
  • Understands and complies with jobsite safety requirements and ensures all peers on site are working within these requirements
  • Provides direction for multiple installers and maintain efficient daily workflow
  • Fully articulates the completeness and detailed information to Supervisor verbally, through email, or by use of project management software
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of construction plans, wiring diagrams, and other related documents
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Strong mechanical & electrical aptitude and ability to work alongside multiple trades
  • Basic Microsoft Office knowledge with ability to learn job specific software
  • Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record and must be 25 years old for insurance purposes
  • Moderate computer skills required with MS office suite software as well as other organizational programs
  • OSHA 30 hour, lift certification, lock out tag out, and other certifications required and will be provided by MPSW as needed

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Mental stamina for problem solving and prioritizing multiple tasks.

Environmental Requirements

Will be required to work in a field environment, multiple customer sites on a daily basis.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to operate computer keyboard reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is continually required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
