Position Description
Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation's largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. Over the years we have worked very hard to keep Seattle's electricity affordable, reliable, and environmentally sound. Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
The Skagit Hydro team is looking for a Plumber to join the team. This position will report to the Skagit Maintenance Manager.
Job Responsibilities
Here is more about what you'll be doing:
  • Install, maintain and repair plumbing fixtures and related components including flush valves, faucets, paper and soap dispensers, waterless urinal cartridges, sensor faucets, and sensor flush valves.
  • Install, maintain, inspect, and repair piping systems inside and outside of buildings including potable and non-potable water, air, gas, drainage, sewage, fire, irrigation, chill water, steam, fountain, pools, and hydraulic heating piping systems. Install, repair, and replace all valves and piping system components.
  • Install, maintain, test, repair, and winterize irrigation systems including sprinkler heads, valves, valve boxes, quick couplers, control clocks, piping, pressure reducing valves, and backflow devices.
  • Install, maintain, and replace all equipment installed on piping systems including pumps, air compressors, heat exchanges, filters, chemical injection equipment, sewage ejectors, electronic valves, tempering valves, appliances, water coolers, spa equipment, pool equipment, fountain equipment, and water heaters.
  • Install, repair, and perform required testing and certification of backflow assemblies. (A Backflow Assembly Tester certification is required to test assemblies.)
  • Test fire systems and maintain test report files and electronic records. Install and maintain fire system and system components; repair and install piping and components; inspect system to ensure code compliance and make necessary corrections. (A Seattle Fire Sprinkler certification is required to perform this work.)
  • Install cast iron sectional boilers. Repair and maintain all associated equipment such as thermostats, low water cutoffs, water feeders, pumps, heating valves of all types, relief vales, heating coils, boiler control sensing equipment, gas regulator, solenoid valves, etc. (Some work may require a Boiler License.)
  • Install, maintain, and repair gas piping and gas equipment. Install and repair gas appliances including water heaters, pool heaters, spa heaters, stoves, dryers, area heaters, and boiler gas feed components. (A Gas Piping Mechanic License is required to perform this work.)
  • Install, maintain, and replace equipment on water systems including mixing chemical solutions, drawing water samples, and other related duties.
  • Clear plumbing stoppages and repairs fitting and line breaks and leaks.
  • Cut and thread pipe and perform welding, soldering and brazing work for plumbing installation and maintenance tasks.
  • Inspect plumbing installations for needed repairs, make recommendations or perform repairs and tests completed work.
  • Plan installations and prepare cost estimates for anticipated plumbing installations.
  • Install and maintain chemical injection and/or pool circulation systems.
  • Review project plans to ensure conformity with applicable codes, specifications, and standards.
  • Order parts and supplies as necessary.
  • Maintain required records and prepare reports.
  • Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.(NOTE: Water quality work is performed by Seattle City Light's Plumber at Skagit.)

Qualifications
Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:
Requires a minimum of four years of experience working at the plumbing and pipe fitting trade under a qualified journey level supervisor or completion of an accepted plumber apprenticeship program (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background).
  • Current Washington State Journeyman Plumber's license.
  • Current Washington State Driver's License or evidence of equivalent mobility.
Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
  • A Washington State Backflow Assembly Tester certificate within six months of employment.
  • A Fire Sprinkler AS-1 License within six months of employment.
  • A Gas Piping Mechanic License within six months of employment.
  • A Water Distribution Manager I Certificate within twelve months of employment.
  • A Basic Water Treatment Operator Certificate within twelve months of employment.
  • A City of Seattle Grade IV Boiler Fireman License.
