Service Professor is looking for an experienced Generator Installation Lead to join our Electrical team. This position is ideal for an experienced electrician or generator installer who can independently lead residential standby generator installations from start to finish while delivering the high level of workmanship and customer service our homeowners expect.

We're looking for someone who understands more than just the electrical side of the job. The right candidate will have hands-on experience installing residential standby generator systems, coordinating all components of the installation, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring every job is completed safely, efficiently, and to code.

What you'll do:

  • Lead residential standby generator installations from start to finish.
  • Install and connect automatic standby generators, transfer switches, electrical panels, disconnects, conduit, wiring, and associated electrical components.
  • Perform electrical modifications and upgrades required for generator installations.
  • Coordinate generator placement and installation requirements, including electrical and fuel connections.
  • Complete startup, testing, commissioning, and verification of newly installed generator systems.
  • Troubleshoot generator, transfer switch, and electrical issues during installation.
  • Read and interpret electrical diagrams, manufacturer specifications, installation manuals, and job plans.
  • Ensure installations meet NEC requirements, local codes, manufacturer specifications, and company quality standards.
  • Work with inspectors and other trades as needed to successfully complete installations.
  • Identify additional electrical work or corrections necessary to safely complete the installation.
  • Maintain an organized job site, company vehicle, tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Communicate professionally with homeowners throughout the installation process.
  • Provide direction and hands-on training to apprentices or installation helpers assigned to the job.
  • Complete required job documentation accurately and on time.

What Does It Take?

  • Valid Journeyman Electrical License in Michigan, preferred - (Apprentices with 3+ years’ experience may be considered)
  • Previous residential standby generator installation experience required.
  • Strong electrical installation experience in a residential service environment.
  • Ability to independently lead a complete generator installation.
  • Experience installing automatic transfer switches and associated electrical equipment.
  • Strong understanding of residential electrical systems, panels, service equipment, grounding, and load requirements.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and generator-related issues.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local codes.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer installation instructions.
  • Experience with major residential standby generator brands such as Generac, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton, or similar equipment preferred.
  • Generator manufacturer certifications are a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing installations correctly the first time.
  • Ability to lead and mentor an apprentice or helper in the field.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Pay:

  • $35.00-$45.00/hour depending upon experience
  • Sign-On Bonus: Potentially - Up to $15,000.00 for Journeyman or Master licensed electricians
