Job description

Job Description
Overview
Kalamazoo Athletic Club is looking for energetic, creative, and community-driven Group Fitness, Movement & Wellness Instructors to help us build the next generation of programming at KAC.
We aren't looking for just one type of instructor and we aren't looking to simply fill a traditional group fitness schedule.
We want talented people who can bring their own expertise, energy, personality, and ideas into our club.
Your specialty might be yoga, mat Pilates, barre, hip-hop, dance fitness, strength, mobility, stretching, recovery, meditation, breathwork, or something we haven't even thought of yet.
You may teach one specialty exceptionally well or be certified across several different formats.
Either way, we want to meet you.
What Could You Teach at KAC?
Depending on your experience, certifications, and professional training, opportunities may include:
  • Yoga
  • Mat Pilates
  • Pilates-inspired strength
  • Barre
  • Hip-hop
  • Dance fitness
  • Cardio dance
  • Yoga sculpt
  • Strength + sculpt
  • Core + conditioning
  • Low-impact strength
  • Mobility
  • Stretch + recovery
  • Balance + stability
  • Functional movement
  • Beginner movement classes
  • Athletic mobility
  • Runner's stretch + recovery
  • Meditation
  • Mindfulness
  • Breathwork
  • Somatic-inspired movement
  • Active recovery
  • Specialty workshops
  • Private or small-group experiences
  • Corporate wellness
  • Hotel guest wellness experiences
  • Outdoor and seasonal classes
  • Member events and pop-ups

And if you teach something that isn't on this list- tell us about it.
We want to build programming around talented people, not limit talented people to a predetermined schedule
What You'll Do
  • Lead safe, engaging, high-quality group fitness, movement, or wellness classes.
  • Create an inclusive environment for a variety of fitness and experience levels.
  • Provide appropriate modifications and progressions.
  • Bring energy, music, personality, and creativity to your classes when appropriate.
  • Build relationships with members and create a sense of community.
  • Collaborate with KAC leadership on new programming and experiences.
  • Help us develop classes based on member interests and emerging wellness trends.
  • Participate in specialty workshops, challenges, pop-ups, and events.
  • Collaborate with other KAC instructors and personal trainers.
  • Maintain a professional, clean, organized, and welcoming class environment.
  • Help us create experiences that make members excited to come back.

Beyond the Weekly Class Schedule
We want to give our instructors opportunities to think bigger.
Imagine:
Hip-Hop
A high-energy evening dance experience with great music and an atmosphere that feels more like an event than a workout.
Pilates + Recovery
Mat Pilates followed by guided stretching and intentional recovery.
Barre + Bubbles
A specialty social class or member event combining movement and community.
Yoga + Reset
Yoga, breathwork, stretching, and guided relaxation.
Runner's Recovery
Mobility, stretching, core stability, and recovery programming designed around runners and our future KAC run community.
Wellness Workshops
Longer experiences centered around mobility, recovery, movement, mindfulness, or an instructor's specific area of expertise.
Corporate + Hotel Wellness
Yoga, Pilates, stretching, dance, somatic, mobility, or wellness experiences created for hotel guests, conferences, and corporate groups.
We want instructors who are excited to help us dream up experiences like these-and bring their own ideas to the table.
Qualifications
Certification, professional training, or demonstrated expertise appropriate to the class format being taught is required.
We are especially interested in instructors with experience or certifications in:
Yoga • Pilates • Barre • Dance Fitness • Hip-Hop • Group Fitness • Strength • Personal Training • Mobility • Stretching • Meditation • Breathwork • Recovery • Functional Movement
CPR/AED certification is preferred or willingness to obtain.
Previous teaching experience is preferred, but we are also interested in emerging instructors with exceptional energy, professionalism, and potential.
