JOB SUMMARY:
The Merchandise Insights Analyst supports the delivery of data-driven insights and analytical recommendations that inform merchandising decisions and improve business performance across 7-Eleven's retail operations. This role is responsible for monitoring business performance, maintaining reporting and scorecards, conducting analyses, and identifying trends that support category strategies and merchandise initiatives. Working closely with Category Teams, Category Planners, and cross-functional partners, the Analyst leverages data from multiple sources to help evaluate business performance, identify opportunities and risks, and support fact-based decision-making across the Merchandise organization. This position contributes to the development of reporting, business reviews, and analytical solutions that enhance visibility into merchandise performance and support organizational objectives.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Analyze merchandise performance data and provide insights to support category strategies, business decisions, and performance improvement opportunities
• Monitor key business metrics and identify performance trends, anomalies, and emerging opportunities across merchandise categories
• Develop and maintain recurring reports, dashboards, scorecards, and analytical tools used by merchandising teams
• Perform routine and ad hoc analyses to support category reviews, promotional evaluations, assortment decisions, and strategic initiatives
• Assist in identifying key drivers of sales, profit, market share, and other business performance metrics
• Support preparation of business review materials, including Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs), leadership updates, and other merchandise performance reporting
• Gather, validate, and organize data from multiple internal and external sources to ensure reporting accuracy and consistency
• Partner with Sr. Merch Insights Analyst, Merchandise Planning, Category Management, Finance, and other stakeholders to develop analyses and address business questions
• Assist in developing visualizations and presentations that communicate performance insights and business recommendations
• Support long-term planning and forecasting efforts by providing analytical insights into market trends, consumer behavior, and category performance
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to help improve reporting capabilities and analytical processes
• Maintain documentation for reporting methodologies, data sources, and business definitions to promote consistency and accuracy
• Stay informed of industry, consumer, and competitive trends to support merchandise planning and decision-making
• Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and enhanced reporting efficiency
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree, Business Analytics, Finance, Economics, Data Science, Statistics, Marketing, or related quantitative field preferred
YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE: 1-3 years
YEARS OF MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE: NA
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, and advanced data analysis techniques
• Experience using Power BI, Tableau, or other business intelligence and visualization tools preferred
• Ability to analyze and interpret large datasets and identify meaningful business insights
• Understanding of retail performance metrics, merchandising concepts, and category management principles
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with attention to detail
• Ability to communicate findings clearly through reports, visualizations, and presentations to diverse audiences
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders across the organization
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to present complex data in simplified formats
• Commitment to data accuracy and quality assurance in all reporting deliverables
• Curiosity and desire to learn merchandising analytics, business performance measurement, and retail insights
• Self-motivated with ability to work independently and take initiative on projects
