Summary

The Deputy General Counsel supports the General Counsel in overseeing the organizationโ€™s legal affairs, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and managing legal risk. This role provides strategic legal guidance to senior leadership and leads key legal initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advise executive leadership and local markets on a wide range of legal matters, including corporate governance, regulatory compliance, contracts, litigation, and risk management
  • Developing and implementing legal strategies aligned with organizational goals
  • Oversee litigation matters, including managing outside counsel, preparing and managing budgets, interacting with insurance carriers, attending mediation, and developing case strategies and resolutions
  • Oversee M&A legal activities, including due diligence, managing outside counsel, preparation of internal memos and documentation
  • Prepare onboarding and exit documentation for employees and brokers, including engagement letters, counseling memos, termination letters, post-termination demand letters.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations; monitor legal and regulatory developments and advise on potential impacts

Qualifications

  • Proven ability to balance legal risk with business objectives
  • Strong judgment and decision-making capabilities
  • Experience in real estate and, preferably, real estate brokerage
  • Superior organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimum supervision and manage tight deadlines.
  • Dependable, flexible, resourceful, ability to problem solve and able to deal with strong personalities.

Education/Experience

  • 15+ years experience
  • Juris Doctor from accredited university
