Join the team developing and implementing ground-breaking management strategies for Florida's most popular inshore fisheries: snook, redfish, and seatrout. This team works to expand FWC's holistic fisheries management approach for snook, redfish, and seatrout, species central to Florida's coastal economy and culture.

The person in this position will also serve as the DMFM representative in Florida's western Panhandle for inshore fisheries and will be responsible for advising the Northwest Regional Director, developing and strengthening partnerships with other state and federal agencies, and building a network of fisheries stakeholder relationships.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong fisheries management or ecology background who is eager to work on these important species. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and synthesizing fisheries data to guide statewide management strategies for these species.

In addition, we seek someone outgoing and able to develop and maintain effective professional relationships with stakeholders, agency partners, and the public. The successful candidate should be passionate about fisheries management issues and conserving vital habitats that support redfish, snook, and spotted seatrout.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and synthesize data to inform rulemaking and management strategies for fisheries.
  • Develop technical reports and presentations on fisheries and habitat-related topics.
  • Assist in the creation and revision of fisheries regulations and management policies.
  • Conduct public workshops to address marine fisheries issues.

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (experience with R programming and ArcGIS is a plus).
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders and team members.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work overtime hours, including some weekends, weeknights, and holidays.

Work at FWC is cross-functional meaning duties may cross division/office lines. The Commission expects employees to function across FWC's organizational structure by providing their skills and expertise wherever needed through work on teams or as directed.

The Commission expects its employees to be courteous and respectful while assisting Commission customers and stakeholders, ensuring each encounter is as positive as possible.  Employees should promptly resolve questions or problems relating to the Commission, its programs and/or fish and wildlife resources.  Employees should seek to gain public support for agency objectives and programs by serving Florida's citizens in a positive and proactive manner and by listening to what the customer wants and striving to meet their needs.  When appropriate, employees will explain the reasons for agency actions or decisions while communicating a consistent FWC point-of-view.
