Job description

Overview:
Under the general supervision of the Park Specialist II, Park Specialist I, or Park Support, the Park Maintenance I & II positions are responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled park maintenance activities necessary to maintain our parks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Participate in the preparation and maintenance of the following:
    • Turf, sports fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, and other park facilities.
    • Ornamental horticulture maintenance including planting trees, shrubs, and annual and perennial flowers, fertilization, seeding, mowing, and sodding and other horticulture needs.
    • Trail maintenance including debris removal, grading, and renovation.
    • Park pavilions, restrooms, equipment, signs, and assigned buildings.
    • Park grounds through litter pickup and recycling activities, bathroom cleaning, vandalism removal, controlled prairie and wood burns, and hardscape maintenance.
  2. Perform power and trim mowing in assigned parks.
  3. Demonstrate and support District customer service standards.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventative maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Assist with the set-up and tear-down of special events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently in day-to-day operations with general direction from supervisor.
  • Able to receive and follow instruction.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.

Special Considerations:
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Subject to both office and outside environmental conditions.
  • Subject to modified/flexible work schedules including weekends.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and/or move objects weighing ≤ 50 lbs on a daily basis. Lifting assistance is required when lifting > 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to pesticides, chemicals, dust, fumes, dirt, loud noise, and insect bites.
  • Prolonged lifting, stooping, bending, twisting, standing, and climbing.
  • Ability to travel to and work at all Naperville Park District facilities.
  • Subject to confined space entry. Will be required to participate in confined space entry training annually.
  • Subject to respirator use. Will be required to pass a Quantitative Fit Test annually.
  • Manual dexterity and strength to operate power-operated machines and equipment.
  • Regular onsite attendance is an essential function of this position.
