Description Are you a nurse looking for a meaningful role with a predictable schedule, strong team support, and less physical strain than traditional bedside or long-term care settings. As a Correctional Nurse, you'll provide essential healthcare services in a structured, secure environment where your clinical skills truly make an impact. This role allows you to focus on assessments, medication administration, and patient education without the heavy lifting and constant call demands often found in nursing homes or hospitals.

Supportive Team Environment: You'll work alongside experienced healthcare professionals with trained correctional staff, ensuring safety. Training: We are committed to your development and provide extensive training and career advancement opportunities. Work Schedule: Day Shift: 12 hours on a 2-2-3 rotation Night shift: 12 hours on a 2-2-3 rotation What You'll Do: Key Responsibilities Perform thorough medical evaluations, physical examinations, and assessments of the inmate population, addressing both routine and complex medical needs.
Provide daily nursing care, first aid, and emergency medical treatment in accordance with physician-approved protocols. Conduct daily nurse sick calls, ensuring timely and appropriate care for all inmates. Administer medications, including injections, following the Medical Director's orders, and monitor the use of medications in compliance with the Code of Virginia.
Perform venipuncture and collect other laboratory specimens, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all procedures. Operate and maintain medical equipment such as oxygen tanks, blood pressure equipment, glucose testing devices, and emergency response tools. Complete detailed reports and medical forms, assist with the physician's sick call, and perform other medical duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For: A High School diploma and/or GED is required. Graduated from an accredited School of Nursing, with licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN), or awaiting licensure. (1) year of LPN experience in a clinic environment preferred.
Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Resilience and Compassion: Working in a correctional facility requires a balance of empathy and toughness, ensuring that all inmates receive the care they deserve.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
