Process Engineer – Injection MoldingPosition Description

SMP Automotive Systems Alabama Inc. is looking for a skilled and motivated Process Engineer to join our Injection Molding team. In this role, you will be responsible for optimizing molding processes, improving machine performance, reducing scrap, supporting new product launches, and ensuring high-quality, efficient production.

What You’ll Do
  • Improve key Injection Molding KPIs including scrap reduction, cycle time, uptime, and process efficiency
  • Lead machine startup, troubleshooting, and process optimization
  • Support new product launches, tool trials, and material sampling
  • Optimize machine settings and peripheral equipment for maximum performance
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase productivity and reduce downtime
  • Support customer project approvals and process validation
  • Monitor production quality and ensure compliance with IATF, ISO, and customer standards
  • Create shift reports, handover documentation, and process records
  • Assist in training mold setters, technicians, and developing team members
  • Promote safety, organization, and sustainable manufacturing practices

What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • 2+ years of experience in injection molding, plastics manufacturing, or related engineering role
  • Strong knowledge of injection molding processes and process optimization
  • Experience with tooling, robotics, pneumatics, and automation systems
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and automotive quality standards
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a manufacturing environment
