Job description

Description
The University of Chicago's Department of Medicine, Section of Emergency Medicine, is seeking a full-time faculty member at any rank to serve as Medical Director for the Emergency Department, located at Ingalls Hospital in Harvey, IL. The Medical Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the Emergency Department at Ingalls Memorial Hospital, including oversight of clinical quality, patient safety, staffing models, and faculty engagement. The Director collaborates closely with hospital and departmental leadership to advance service line growth, operational efficiency, and alignment with institutional goals. The appointee will maintain an active clinical practice within the Emergency Department, providing high-quality, patient-centered care while modeling best practices for faculty, advanced practice providers, and trainees. Other activities include teaching of trainees and students, as well as scholarly activity. Academic rank and compensation are dependent upon qualifications.

The appointee will join an academic faculty who are active in research, medical education, simulation, international medicine, EMS/prehospital medicine, and air-medical transport. At Ingalls Memorial Hospital, faculty also gain experience in a high-volume, community-based emergency department that emphasizes operational efficiency, population health, and close collaboration with hospitalists and specialty colleagues, complementing the academic environment at Hyde Park.
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, and 3) be board certified or eligible in Emergency Medicine.
